Ok, i know this has come up a lot but i have found no real answers.
My 87 3.9 put out the check egr light as part of the mileage service adivsories... and i dont know how to shut it off. The batter thing does not work because i just put in a new alternator and i had the batt. disconnected for more than a day.
So what am i suppose to do???

Man that light came on in my truck at like 90000 and it now has 198000. I think its one of those lights that trips to get you back in the dealership for service because my egr (emissions gas regulator ) it makes sure you get a full burn on your gas for emissions works fine but the lights stays on.
87 dak 3.9l 4x4 shortbed, 198000, reworked heads in the shop with 1.6 rockers going in and a new hipo oil pump next week.

EGR is exhaust gas recirculation, not what ever you called it and the light is a check engine light or in some older models there is also a service required light that comes on every 30,000 mi. It means you need a tune up and should have the O2 sensor replaced. It is meant as a reminder only and yes you need to go to a dealer or mechanic that has a scanner that can reset the light so it can glare at you in another 30,000 mi. I just put a pc. of black tape over the one in my mini van.
