Subject: HELP!! Check Engine Light

Message:
Okay, I have a 93 Dak with the 3.9 and auto. When I bought the truck the check engine light was on. I checked the codes and it came up with the 41 code, "Generator field not switching properly (alternator)." I took it to the mechanic and he checked the charging system and said the alternator was putting out like 28 volts to the battery. He also said that some one had put a second voltage regulator on and spliced into the wires off the alternator. Now, if the computer is saying the 41 code, which is an open or short in the alternator, then where the splice was made is what is causing the code to trip right? He said I need a different PCM. But my guess is that the PCM is alright. I just need to hook everything up correctly and see what happens.. reply if you need something else explained again. Also, reply if you have a used PCM you would sell me.. Thanks..
