 Subject: Probelm with 88 Shifting into 4th

When im on the freeway goin bout 70, I will have my foot on the petal steady yet sometimes, it still goes into Passing Gear, then once its done it goes into 4th, then you here it go into 3rd again then a few seconds later, Passing gear again and it does it all over again, Im getting my tranny fluid changed with a new screen and mabye that would fix it.

Hey yeah i have heard of that but not had it happen to my truck. I have an 87.
I have a quick question for you,
What kind of alternator do you have on your truck?
I think mine is going out, and i spend about an hour at my local parts dealer and he even looked at it.
We can't figure out what kind it would be.
All i need to know is if you have a big black plastic thing on the back or not?

I have a 2001 3.9 and I find that the slightest incline (or even a strong head wind) on the highway will cause it to shift down into third to maintain speed. There is just no power in the overdrive gear.
