my problem is with my 3.9L V6 Automatic Tranny...when its cold and i come to a stop it automatically puts itself in a "neutral" state...lol...i'm like WTF? i gotta tap on the gas a few times lightly and then it catches the gear and goes...but once it's warmed up it doesn't do it...kinda weird...but i can't afford to take it in right now...it also does it when i go up a small hill and take my foot off the gas and come to a stop when still going uphill...then when i take my foot off the break it dont have the gear, so i put it in park then back in drive and it goes but still makes a "grinding/rubbing" sound thats really hard to describe...hmm...any ideas? thanks a lot.

I'd say check your fluid level, it sounds low, Just make sure the truck is running and in neutral, and if course on a flat surface.

From what I understand, the tranny steps through five different shift programs as it warms up. Maybe the temp sensor on the tranny isn't reading properly.

I have the same tranny. I had trouble with it hunting
for gears and bad shifting - it turned out I needed a
new governor pressure solenoid and a transducer -
both are sensors. They run about $100 each up here.
Also, I use synthetic fluids, the tranny is shifting really
well even in this cold weather.

first things first check the smell of the fluid,if it smells really bad burnt!then you,ve got clutch problems.if not pull the trany pan to see if theres large pieces of metal, small ones are normal(copper in color not),also the torque conventer can do this (it works the pump and workswith the pump)

jack up the truck and support it.then get under truck find the trans.the pan is about 14"by16" square with about 15 bolts holding it on.get a catch pan to catch the oil when you loosen the bolts.when the oil is done draining remove pan.you,ll be able to see a fiber filter attached with 3 screws.remove filter, replace with a new one.check for heavy amounts of metal shavings in pan and filter.if present filter may have been plugged.causing the oil unable to pass thur. replace with new filter, pan gasket and about 6 quarts of chrysler atf 3+ also try a bottle of lucas oil for trans found at most parts stores this helps with shifting and helps heat.PS if your having douths take it to a gargage and have do it the cost about $100 and they can adjust the bands also.good luck.

or clutch problems??
I have taken my 2000 dodge dakota back to the dealership many times complaining of this problem and they keep telling me the same old thing. My problem is that when I begin to accelerate after being in first gear, sometimes it pops out of gear. When it occurs, it is very loud and obvious. This only happens in 1st gear and it may happen once every two weeks to 3 or 4 times a week. When I bring it to my dealership, they say the same thing, which is that if they can't recreate the problem, then they can't fix it. The problem doesn't occur enough for them to see what it does. I'm very frustrated and feel like I am being scammed. Any thoughts or ideas?? ;(
