A few problems, #1 I am on my 3rd set of rotors within the past 4 years, any ideas on how to keep them from warping? #2 I have installed a high output alt. and a new battery but when I run my a/c and my head lights my radio will cut off.
#3 When the engine is cold, and put it in gear it seems to have real low rpm, but when it warms up it runs fine untill you go to shut it off then it wants to deisel some times.

hi,
I also have a 1987 Dakota with a 3.9l. throttle body, and ever since i bought it, i've been thinking about putting in a powerdyne supercharger, because i've been told that the supercharger is adaptable to the 3.9, but can mine run it when it's not fuel injected, someone please e-mail me at mustang1970@bolt.com

Hey Tony.

#1 - Next time you add new rotors, add some new brake shoes and pads to go with it. Warped shoes and pads will quickly warp the "new" rotors! If you install them yourself, get some new rotors from www.brakeco.com. They are really cheap and last a good while. Very cost effective since I install them myself.

#2 - Sounds like an electrical problem, probably in the fuses. Check ALL fuses for problems. Sometimes a blown fuse that powers the rear tailights will cause my radio to go berserk! Dont ask me why, I'm not an electrical guy! But check them all!

#3 - When an engine is cold, everything is cold! This includes the tranny and the tranny fluid, as well as the axle fluids, too! Even when my 1989 4x4 engine gets warmed up, I can tell that the tranny fluid is still only "warm" rather than hot. And I can tell when the fluids in the axles are finally hot, too. It takes time for everything to reach its temperature. Just because the engine is hot and is allowing the coolant to circulate through it, doesnt mean all other fluids in your truck are at their optimal operating temperature.

I usually let my truck warm up about 10 mintues each morning here in cold Utah.

Jeremy,

My man, I'm in the same boat as you are. To my knowledge we are S.O.L., The only thing that I can think of is converting our engines into the Magnum V6. What I mean by that is, we need to find a crashed Magnum V6 and take the engine, or go the route that I'm trying to do, which is find some heads intake manifold, injectors and Tbi as well as the PCM off of a Gen II (Magnum V6) and rebuild your engine for a suppercharger. Actually in the long run that might be the way to go. If you have an 87 like I do, it has at least 100k on it, possible more. It is a great motor, and I think rebuilding it is gonna be a blast. Not sure how much it is gonna cost, but I'll put some post up once I get the project underway. Right now I'm at the body shop getting the new mods and Paint job done. Keep intouch bro, and Maybe we can exchange Idea's.

Still looking for the intake, tbi, and PCM unit, I put up a few post here, but no one has responded. I'm located oversea's so I don't have access to ebay on the work computers. Once I get my home PC up, I should be able to access ebay and start more heavily on the Rebuild. I'm looking at putting an aftermarket cam in, 1.6 rollers, a hombrew cool air intake, and of corse the Gen II/III intake, tbi, and pcm. Actually with the TBI, I wanted to put one off of a 5.9 v8 on the truck with FMS #24 injectors. I think that along with the aftermarket Cat, headers and other mods will put me in the 200+ hp range which is what I'm looking for before I try to supercharge the engine. My goal is to make a 300 hp premagnum v6 daily driver. Hopefully I'll get the job done. Only time will tell.

hey tony, did you install the radio yourself?
i had a similar problem when i installed a cd player in my 87 dodge dakota. when i pulled the light switch thing to turn the headlights on, the radio would cut out and my dash lights wouldn't work. i later discovered(after dismanteling almost the entire dash) that i hooked the ground wire coming from the radio to a random black wire with a yellow stripe (which i thougt was the ground wire) but it wasn't. there was also an orange wire with no where to go. i discovered that the black wire is the power wire for the dash lights and needed to be connected to the orange wire. it was originally used to pass through the stock radio and turn it's lights on aswell as the dash lights. hope this helps.
