 Subject: 01 3.9-couple of concerns

Current outside air temp is 0F and has been for a week now. 2001 SLT CC 3.9 A/T 24 000 miles
1) When I start the truck the oil pressure gauge doesn't move for a good 8-10 seconds. Then it just shoots up to the second notch and stays there. The needle falls to half way when the engine heats up. I'm running Mobil 1 10W30 and a Delco PF13C filter. Level is good. There's no bad sounds associated with it like lifters or any kind of bearing knock.
2) Last night the transmission would not shift into O/D. Even after the truck had run on the highway for 20 minutes and was nice and warm. I tried slowing down to 30MPH then tromping it to get the kick down. I finally pulled off, shut her down, started up right away and drove off. It was fine after that.
3) I have a real big problem with pinging. Steady cruise and acceleration cause all sorts of pinging. I'm running the Autolite 3923's and 87 shyte octane gasoline. I'll switch to a 180F t-stat as soon as the weather warms up a bit. I'll prolly do cap, rotor and wores then. Any recommendations for the last three? ANy other tips?

1. I use Mobil 1 5w30 in the winter 10w30 summer
2. The transmission has a temperature sensor in it that won't allow it to shift into OD until it reaches a certain temp. keeps the trenny from slipping.
3.I have tried the Autolites & a 180* thermostat and my truck ran worst with them so I changed back to stock plugs & stat. With 24k miles I would say your on the right track changing the cap & rotor

I run nothing but 89 octane in my 01 3.9V6. Since I started doing that, I've not heard the truck ping once. With 87 it would ping under heavy acceleration. I believe I read something that came with the truck that you should run 89 octane anyways.
