I have a bad situation that might turn out to be very good. I just bought my dak 2 months ago, I've done a few small mods and I was thinking about changing the exhaust. Last night my truck started acting funny, very doggy and wouldn’t idle my mechanic tells me my CAT has broken loose and I need to replace it along with my muffler. The dealer I bought my truck from is going to replace the CAT and muffler and he says if I pay the difference then he will install a better duel exhaust system. Now for my problem, I have no idea what to have him do, I don’t want to spend too much on it but I would like it to sound better and give me more performance, so can anyone out there give me any suggestions and maybe some prices? Thank you very much in advance

Stick with the single exit system as they make a little more power that a dual system. (If you like the looks of the dual system, make sure you don't run more than 2-2.25" pipes out the back...add whatever tips you want though.)

Prices range from $225-$500 on exhaust systems...do you know what type of sound you're looking for?

I'm not sure, I know it wont sound like a v8 but id like it to be low and throaty and I want it to be noticeable but not like glass pacts I really don't want it to sound like a ricer either, id like it to be noticeable at idle and at cruising through town (id also love it to sound good when I really get on it but I'm not sure if that’s possible because of the higher pitched motor noise) when you say it will be $225-$500 is that on top of what a normal exhaust would cost? I've heard that the CAT back systems can steal HP is this true? Should a put a factory CAT on it and then add a muffler? Will the truck run same/better/worse if I leave the CAT off? I know am asking a lot of questions and I just want to tell you that I really do appreciate any help you can give me. I want to slowly build a V8 killer so if you don’t mind I'm sure I will be asking you a lot more questions.

Dear V8 killer, I have a 98 dodge dakota sport v6 3.9 liter. I had dual exaust installed on my truck to, it will be alot louder, but if you let off the gas at a high rpm like in first, it dont sound right. Also i put in a high performance air filertation sytem, that helps the sound. Good luck on your quest to leave some v8s at the red light, im on the same mission. Peace
