Was looking at the specs of my truck in my glove compartment today...
4 speed transmission - that means 4 gears + O/D right?
Torque converter - locked... that mean only wheel spins or both?
Gearing - 3.55... don't really care about that... big question is bout the torque converter.

Torque convertor has nothing to do with the rear wheels. What you are referring to is a posi or limited slip rear end. I don't think very many Dakotas had limited slip from the factory, so no you probably won't get both wheels to spin.

Just realized I spelled torque wrong... ah well.
Well mega bummer... I want limited slip and was hoping that meant I had it and didn't know it:P
Ah well...guess I'll live with only 1 tire giving me traction til i get the money to pay for it.

I have a 98 Dakota Sport 3.9 V6 and mine came with a Limited Slip :)

got a 99 CC came with Limited slip and 3.92 gears. Maybe cause it's a 4X4??

It's actually 3spd+OD and the locking torque conveter means just that. The TQ converter locks to improve fuel economy in OD as apposed to a 3spd which has a none locking TQ converter which slips about 5% eating fuel and heating the trans.
By the way gears are really important when it come to acceleration(especially stock).

my 87 has locking tc and its a 3 spd. locks up at 45 mph
