The elec fuel pump still has to draw fuel up through the old pump, right? The old pump itself might need to be replaced. If you do that, you dont need the elec secondary pump anymore. My OEM pump failed on my about a month ago. We replaced it with a new one; now everything works great. The elec fuel pump is really a waste of money, especially when the OEM pump works fine.

You might try an onboard diagnostic and see if anything else is causing it:

Do that and see if any sensors are showing up as bad.

Also, did you buy a bad, dirty tank of gas? Sometimes when my 1989 4x4 starts acting funny like that, I just wait until that tank of gas is empty. That has solved about 1/2 of all my problems I have had!

i dont know why the guy by-passed the old pump but when it first happened the first thing i did waas replace the pump the electric pump draws fuel straight from the tank it by passes the oem pump and the fuel regulator a mechanic thought that it might be a fuel reg. problem so he put a manual fuel regulator on it. it still soutters out in traffic . it surges then nothing and then eventually just sputters out

Try doing the onboard diagnostic using the CHECK ENGINE light to see what the codes say. maybe its something other than the pump.
