Okay I bought the Quad Cab V6 automatic and now realize I should have gotten the v8. However, without loosing my shirt I am stuck. My qustion is what should I do to get more power. I have learned a little about Throttle bodies, air intake, and mufflers, but could someone give me some more specific products to look at and what the result will be in driving. Right now, I cannot pass a car on the freeway....

I own a 2000 Quad Cab V6. Right now I have a Airaide intake, F&B 48mm throttle body(from SoCalDakota), JBA headers, 3" Dynomax catback, and MSD wires. I really noticed my biggest difference in performance with the throttle body. My biggest let down was with the 3" exhaust. It sounds great but I lost a lot of bottom end torque. Should have stayed with the 2.5" catback. Give me some time and I can have prices for all of the items.

I ordered a K&N air intake kit tonight for 190.00, and have spoken to a guy who will put a flowmaster muffler on for 185. The guys at the shot feel pretty strongly that I will see a big difference after these two mods... thoughts?

The K&N intake is one of the better ones out there so that should help and as long as you stay with the 2.5" muffler then you should be very happy with the set up. Let us know how everything works out after you get them on.

Do you have the 3.55 gears? If so get at least the 3.92 or 4.10 gears with LSD for off the line grunt and passing potential. This will probably be your best bang for the buck. Randy Pile at World Wide Performance Parts.

Leave the exhaust work for the end. Get the air in (air intake, TB, 1.7 rocker arms or an aftermarket cam built for torque). Here are some decently priced parts:

Intense Performance air intake
stock 48mm TB and 1.7 rr from Sam at www.socaldakota.com

It take quite a bit to get the V6 QC moving!

Hey thanks for the compliment Lesley!

Glad you got a good deal on those parts, anything to help a friend ;)

Anytime I'm in your neighbourhood, I'll let you know. Maybe I'll give you a hand with your 5.9L build up.

Did Billy tell you that my truck moves?

I'll be putting a cam into the 360 as soon as I have the $$ - I'm thinking the KRC 210 (I could use your experience with that heh, heh) .Here's what it looked like last week, I want to get it up onto the stand this weekend. Since this pic, I've taken the alternator, compressor and brackets off.

Dave,

Most likely you have the 3.55, which is the most common gear off the lot. Some have experienced equal or slightly better MPG with the 3.92.

It sounds to me like you're only looking for increased performance in daily driving. Let me know what you budget is and I'll get a parts list together for you.

Lesley,

Installing the cam in your 360 will be a piece of cake since the engine is already out of the truck! It will be setting the sync that may take some time. The KRC210 looks like a well suited cam for you. Did the guys on DTO help pick it out for you?

kacivic,

About $300 for the gears (Motive Gear) and $200 for install by a local 4x4 shop. What current mods do you have? You may want to look into other mods right now, since you gen II is much lighter than a gen III IMHO.

If you have a real nose for a bargain and are willing to do some surfing, you can find great deals on parts. Ebay is good, but I noticed prices have really climbed in the last year or so. My best finds on parts have been through forums like this one, and moparchat.com and dodgetrucks.org. I paid $100 for my 3.92s and they are brand new. My posi carrier was $45 US!!! I don't even want to admit what I paid for the new intake with billet TB, but suffice to say it was less than a quarter of the retail price.

Swingman: Yeah, the DTO guys have been so great for advice. I did a lot of research on my own too, and I think that cam, or the comp cam (I think it's 20-608) which is comparable will be the best bet. I want the musclecar lope, but it's my only driver so it has to be streetable (some of the really radical cams can affect the vacuum and cause probs with brakes etc). There are so many variables!

Hey did you guys know that for a mere $3,999 you can get a stroker kit for our engines that will kick the #@$ out of the next R/T you meet on the street? :)
