I have the same situation. Loud whine that has been on and off
since the truck was new in 2003. I have too replaced the IAC
and sealed it up with no affect. The problem Im having now is
the whine happens sometimes in the summer which totally
sucks. I drive a stick and notice that when I depress the clutch
the whine stops immediately, with a little "winding down". I've
had two different mechanics hear the whine and can't reproduce
it in the shop so I'm left asking for help here. The only constant
seems to be the whine is always present at either 1250 or 1850
RPM, never at low or really high RPMs. Doesn't matter which
gear, but mostly 4th or 5th.

Please, anyone, help!! I'm going deaf!!

Fisher,

I had exactly the same sound on my 97 when it was new (within the first 3 months). Figured out it was the alternator, went to the dealer. They sprayed some stuff one the belt, I told them it wasn't the belt. Whine was still there, went back they put on a new belt, again told that wouldn't fix it. Went back a third time and got a new alternator and the whine was gone.

I have a new twist to add to this noise problem. I too had posted having this whistling noise from the dash area happen only when it was very cold. Now I notice a slight hint of it when I turn on my air conditioner. Anyone out there see any correlation? I would love to solve this once and for all. I haven't even took it to a dealer yet, as I'm so sure they're going to tell me they can't diagnose it.

If this is the same noise that I used to hear in my truck, it is caused by highflow air filters. Try a standard air filter and see if it goes away.

I've got a 2003 Dakota regular cab with a 3.9 liter (V-6) manual 5 speed 2 wheel drive. I've got 95,000 miles on it now. It has been making a high pitch whine since about 60,000 miles. The whine is continuous and all the time when power is applied to the rear wheels. It quiets down when I push in the clutch. The faster I go, the louder it gets. No noise when sitting idle. My problem is not related to cold weather (I live in Melbourne, Florida). I also have an OEM air filter (so no correlation there either). No correlation to the air conditioner either. I'm wondering if it might be a rear differential bearing. I replaced the gear lube in the transmission and rear differential as well as the universal joint bearings with no changes in the noise problem. I can't pinpoint where the problem is coming from. It doesn't seem to interfere with the operation of the truck, it's just very loud. Any GOOD suggestions???

I have the high pitched squeel at various speeds,
usually over 40 mph. lasts 30 seconds or so, then
goes away, but comes back. When I take it out of
gear it stops.

Wow, bringing back posts from the dead.

I found out my problem was i was using my 3rd brake light as
a way to hold a wire down (just the corner of the wire and light.
Seemed like a good idea at the time at 16)

Long story short, once my third brake had a good seal, the
noise went away

Get a high pitched whine occasionally at road speed
and about 1800 RPM. I'm fairly certainly the ignition
system is picking up microwaves from cell towers as it
only does it when driving near one and will then quit
until it picks up another.
No, it is not the serpentine belt. So I'm wondering
what can be done to electronically suppress the noise.

Jess,

We recommend upgrading to girlfriend version 3.0, it’s got
some notable improvements from version 2.0 in regards to
nagging. We do not recommend installing the beta wife 1.0 as
it is still buggy in regards to nagging, and downgrading back to
girlfriend 2.0 or even 4.0 will cause major issues with bank
account 2.5 and house 1.5. Under no circumstance install
girlfriend 4.0 or above with wife 1.0 or 2.0 installed at the same
time, or assbeat 1.9 is downloaded and forcefully installed.

Just got a 2003 Club Cab 4x4 3.9 5 speed with 81k miles from
original owner. I get a loud whine at highway speed when it's
below 25°F or so. It comes and goes and is quieter if I ease off the
throttle. Noise stops if I clutch and often doesn't return when I
release the clutch, at least for some time. Seems worse/more
frequent if I've been driving and the truck gets warmed up.

I'm worried it could be the clutch, but wonder if it could be the
rear differential
