depends on if you want synthetic or not. I switch to 5w30 (non synthetic) for the winter here in MI

yes. It is a thinner viscosity and will warm up quicker and spread throughout the engine faster. The owners manual says that you can use 5w30 for winter. Where do you live in MI?
