hello everyone,
just got my jba nickel headers today, and my best friend (the mechanic) is going to help me install them in a week or two, i've got the jba wires too, i was just wondering about how long it took you guys to install...i've got a '98 C/C and of course the 3.9...i'm finally getting some power out of this thing after my throttle body, FMS 19# injectors, airaid intake, vortex dual exhaust, magnaflow cat, autolite plugs, and jet stage II module...my MSD 6A is on the way!!!

thanks for the replies and merry xmas,
Brian

I did mine over a period of 2 evenings...probably about 4 or 5 hours worth, but, I was taking it very nonchalantly. Once you remove the intake, the passenger side should be wide open...I tied up the hoses on the driver side with a piece of wire, in order to get them out of the way. Getting the old manifolds off should be easy...be careful in removing the studs, you don't want to break one. Spray with WD40 or something similar, and use a "jam" nut, tightened against an outside nut, to back them out. Clean up the head mating surfaces with some solvent and some fine sandpaper...also the Y pipe flanges. Don't forget to use the manifold gaskets. Use a bead of Ultra Copper RTV at the collector flanges. Put everything together just like it came off...the hardest bolt for me to get in was the rear driver's side. Don't forget the lockwashers, like I did...I had to remove the header bolts and reinstall! Some folks claim that they've had to recheck/retighten the header bolts 2 or 3 times after install...I've checked mine several times, and they've remained tight after install. Good luck!...P

i took me and a buddy about 5 hours total to do
but that includes lunch. it was the fisrt mods i
did on my truck and really the first true mod i'd
even done on a vehicle. the rear drivers side is a
pain to get too. i actualyl did it from the
underside of the truck. liquid wrench works good.
and your truck will burn it off for a few days so
the smell is normal. but yes be careful takin the
stock bolts and studs out. and its a good idea to
check the bolts after a day of driving or so jsut
to make sure. on the Y-pipe get both sides
threaded up before tightening other wise one side
will be a lil tough. good luck and have fun
