Subject: v-6 to v-8 tb swap w/o replacing cable

Message:
instead of switching cables, just switch linkage.
The v-6 and v-8 tb's have the same size shaft dia. The ends are rectangle and the linkage does fit. I'VE done it. slot lenght is different between the two so you can't just switch them directly. Tryed that too.
grind down the "ear" holding on the linkage, remove linkage and spring, place the V-6 linkage on the V-8 tb and ether tack weld, drill and tap or take to machince shop to have attached if you don't fill comffy doing it yourself. Why change a cable you don't have too. I attached mine using a screw from an old sensor on the V-8tb, drilled, tapped, used flat and lock washer(small), and thread locker for extra measure. Looks like it come from the factory because the screws all match. If you drill and tap just make sure the hole it dead center and STRAIGHT.

I done this swap on my 93 before I installed the 360. I had to basically take 2 TBs to make 1. I used the throttle shaft and bearings from the 3.9 TB and the V-8 throttle blades and housing. I had to elongate the slots on the 3.9 throttle shaft with a hacksaw blade so the V-8 throttle blades would fit. The throttle shaft is smaller diameter on the V-6 vs. V-8. Leave the throttle blades a little loose after they are installed and open and close the throttle to get them in the proper position so they open and close properly. Then tighten the screws up and peen the ends so they dont fall out.

I did the same as JGWoodman, except I welded the linkage on. Matter of total 10 minutes and free. You don't really need that V8 cable...

BigJoe: how do figure this meothd is harder than switching the cable when you already have the TB's off the vehicle to change them out anyways? It took me five minutes to drill and tap a screw hole. From what I've been reading on this site and others is takes most people aleast half an hour to change a cable that is up under the dash area that some folks can't even fit under. It would take even less to tack weld it on.

or sometimes you find a v8 tb that's the same year as yours and you don't have to do anything like me. i have a 95 v6 and my v8 tb came from a 94, no linkage mod. required.

I have a 02 V-6 and when I did the switch to
the V-8 TB I kept the the old V-6 cable housing
and left the V-8 TB intact. I cut the cable out of
the V-6 cable housing and replaced it with a
length of new cable and two crimps. I even
enlarged the cable cam on the V-8 TB to give
me more fearthing of the throtle at low RPM.
The throtle plates on the V-8 TB are so big that
a small touch to the pedal does alot so the
more travel the pedal has the beter the control.
In real sketchy 4X4 conditions that control can
mean the difference between getting up that
hill or breaking an axle.

One other thing did you guys think to port
match your intake manifold to your new V-8 TB
The openings in the V-6 Manifold are just as
restrictive as the V-6 TB is.
