Subject: Changing the fan belt

Message:
This may seem like a stupid question for those of you who have experience with working on your truck, but I don't have any experience or an owner's manual so don't get on me about it, please:)

I'd like to know how easy it is to change the fan belt on my 98 3.9L and how would I go about it? Also, where could I pick up a replacement belt online for cheaper than all the places around here? If any of you know this, where could I go about obtaining an owner's manual for my truck?

Thanks you all,
Josh

Simple!

AutoZone should carry the belt and the Chiltons manual for the truck, both at a decent price.

The belt changing itself though, is easy. You need a long handle wrench (I think it was 15mm), place it on the center nut on the belt tensioner pully, and turn clockwise. Actually, it won't turn, it'll move the tensioner in, releasing the tension on the belt. You just slip the belt off, ease the tensioner back, and remove the belt the rest of the way. Installation is reverse of removal, just follow the belt diagram that should be above the radiator. :0)

Alright, thanks guys! My grandpa wanted me to take the truck in to the shop to have it done since he wasn't positive how to do it with a dakota, but I don't care to pay someone to do it when I'd like to learn to do the stuff myself:)
