Hey everyone. I just got my brand new 2003 SXT and was just interested in hearing some performance add ons and modifications I can do to increase mileage, horsepower, torque, drivability, etc. I've always been a Jeep guy. Still have my Cherokee. So, I don't really know too much about my truck yet. Any information about parts and stuff would be appreciated. Also, if any parts would mess with my powertrain/bumper to bumper warrenties. Thanks guys.

Glare,
Welcome! I own a '02 SXT and unfortunately did not find this site till after i sterted modifying, but here are some ideas about mods:
Don't bother with a throttle body spacer.
Check Ebay and cross reference this site before you buy anything off it. Grill inserts, home-brew intakes, etc.. can be made cheaper with the instructions found on this site. Personally I wouldn't do the home brew, but to each his own, I am sure it works great.
I have not had luck with the Autolite spark plugs, but many have, the only thing i can figure is that much like a human, each Dakota has preferences and you just have to try to find the right mix to make it happy.

One question for you, does your SXT have the graphite trim? I heard they got rid of that for 2003, so i didn't know if it was an option or if 2002 was the only year it came up.

Well I got the preferred customer package on it as well. Color matching wheel flares, 255/65R16s, light tint. Only parts that are not color matching, red, are the bumpers.

BTW: I was just wondering after reading over my warrenty info. If I need to, I'll call the dealer, but I'm lazy. As long as I don't really mess with the odometer. Most to all modifications won't void the entire warrenty. It'll just not cover the new parts. IE: Mufflers. Headers. Cat. SP Wire Kits, etc. Since you have a '02, I just thought you'd know. Thanks

Hi Glare231,
Welcome aboard!!! First off, let me say that from reading here and many other places, no aftermarket parts can void your warranty unless it is determined that the problem was caused by that part.

Quoted from www.speedtweaks.net :
"This is a common question with an easy answer: NO.

Federal law sets forth requirements for warranties and contains a number of provisions to prevent vehicle manufacturers, dealers and others from unjustly denying warranty coverage. With regard to aftermarket parts, the gist of the law is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used. The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket part caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought. Disputes in this area usually boil down to arguments over facts and technical opinions, rather than arguments over interpretations of the law." More infor on this is available at SEMA.

I haven't got too far on the mods yet myself, but the best thing you can do for your engine first is make it breath better. Start with a new air intake, one thats less restrictive than the stock air box. Next is lose the stock muffler. Get a less restrictive muffler to allow better exhuast flow. I understand you don't wanna let a V6's exhaust flow to freely as you will loose low end torque (someone correct me if I'm wrong..cause I'd like to be sure of that) Also, get a bigger throttle body, such as one from a stock 318 or 360 V8. Those are the best places to start when modding your engine. Others can probably tell you much more. Have Fun!! (wow, long Post!!!)
