Ok, let me start off by saying my 93' 3.9 Dak has no mods done to it. However, I tend to be a bit of a speed demon and think my Dakota runs like my 11 second malibu :-) (not quite to say the least).
Well, I raced a ford Ranger tonight, probably around the 94' year. I'm not sure the engine size, but once I turned the OD off I won, he hung with me untill I cracked third, that's when I pulled away easy. I also raced my buddy's 94 4.0V6 ranger and I smoked him with the OD off, with the OD on we were dead even at 105mph when we stopped. A car I raced was a spankin' new eclipse, I think it was the 4 banger. We raced from a light and it took me three times slamming the gas to grab traction (it was raining) and he pulled away in his FWD. By the time I got traction he had about 3 car lengths on me and I blew right by him. Talk about blowing the doors off of something. I wouldn't have considered it a race if he hadn't asked me if I wanted to race at the light! LOL, just thought I'd share!

Yo, blacdak, sorry to sound sarcastic, but I didnt think the 3.9 would run 105mph. if you have mods let me know, I would love mine to run like that stock.

How fast the 3.9 will go depends on the speed limiter. Mine (2000 CC 4x4) will shut down at about 92 mph with 1/3 throttle left. A friend of mine has a RC 2wd 98, and his can get about 110 before the computer shuts it down. From what I have heard, the speed limiter settings on our trucks are very inconsistent. But a stock 3.9 can go that fast, it has enough power (but not much extra).

OK, that explains that. But I think I will keep the old girl around 80-85. she's in her golden years 95 3.9 with 121'000 on the clock. BTW, mine shuts off at 90mph thats why I was asking. p.s. i found out what LOL means. HAHAHA.

Nice.. At the time when i had no mods..i raced a 96 eclipse ..he had a cold air.. racing clutch and shifter..dont know what kind.. and different ignition from what he told me..only thing i had at the time was a k&n drop in AF last summer.. we raced a few times.. we broke pretty even.. i beat him by no more than a foot or two.. he pulled me everytime off the start..the hesiation on the stock v-6 kinda kills during a race..
>>as far as speed.. mine is a 99 cc 2wheel drive.. i have 265/40/17 Kuhmo tires on it.. when i went to canada last winter when i lived in idaho..now in arizona.. all there back roads were the best.. I dont know how much my speedo is off the the new tire sizes over factory.. but we did get it to the 110 on the speedo(note could be off) before it would not go any farther.. im sure it probably might have only been in the 100 to 105 area??
I have a Movie Clip to off the trip if anyone wants to see :) And then i found out Canada puts speed cameras up in trees or something.. is that true??

Yeah, mine will make it up to 110 with no mods. I know because I suffered my first loss today to a mid-80s turbo supra. I think I could have taken him off the line (we started from 50 mph)because I took him from the start, but once we reached higher RPMs he pulled. It's ok though, no shame in saying you lost to a Supra, it's nice to know that my DAk hung with one. Though we were on the highway and we had to go around a slight turn (I felt lots of body sway). Maybe with a lowered suspension for lower center of gravity I could have shook him. Who knows. Racing is fun!

Up in the trees? That's a new one to me! I have often wondered why they don't start ticketing folks on the 407 when the time you enter & the time you leave is recorded. That's where I got my dak up to 110 (sparse traffic, honest).

I'm hurt by the fact some of you don't think a 3.9 can't run 105mph. Before I put my intake in I would pull a good 115 or so down the highway with no prob. I mean the engines not that weak.

i had a 93 dakota V6 LE i got it up to 115 and it was still pulling and i gust got a new dakota sxt and i cant wate to find out what that can do.
