I have a 2000 Dakota 3.9 V-6 with 90,000 miles. At highway speeds the rpm's spike from 50 to 200 rpm for +/- a second 2 to 3 times per min causing the truck to buck. The dealer changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, but the problem continues.

Ok - The engine cutting off at idle, this is most likely the IAC (Idle Air Control)Motor on the back of the throttle body, you can clean it and it will work for a while but it will stop again so just replace it, not that expensive.

The power issue could be caused from fuel injection timing, I had issues with that on my 93, I adjusted it and got gobbs more power. The way to adjust it, set the engine to top dead center for #1 cylinder on the compression stroke, take the cap off the distributor and see where the rotor is pointing, there should be a line on the sensor below that it should be pointing at. If it is not pointing at the line then it is off. For best results I put the rotor pointing just before the line (remember which direction it turns, don't move it backwards).

As for the bucking, the only thing I have to offer is possibly the crank position sensor on the back of the engine, I had issues with mine, it would cause the truck to cut off and then catch again with a big backfire.

well i got the IAC and the gasket for my throttle body and while im changing out the IAC
i might as well change the gasket. i used carb cleaner around the throttle body and it bogged down worse then it usually does. so that might be it to. idk.
i hope it fixes it. hopefully. if not i might have to weight till this summer to take my hole motor apart.
fix everything.
thnx again. devin
