Subject: '94 V6 has annoying squeak
IP: Logged

Message:
Maybe someone can help.
This squeak happens when truck is in motion.
More noticeable just starting out and up to say 40 - 50 mph, when highway noise drowns it out.
Sounds like it may be a brake noise, but it doesn't go away when brakes are applied!
It gets faster too when the vehicle is going faster and slows down when vehicle slows down.
It varies in tone too.
Light sounding then louder sounding...light, loud.
Any suggestions would help.
'94 V6 automatic..4 X 4...ext. cab
thanks
Brian

If it's a whining or groaning type noise it might be your rear differential gears. When's the last time u changed your rear or front diff fluid? Just a guess. Not quite a sqeak remedy, i haven't payed any attention to any sqeaks since i lowered my '01 CC, it's a squeak machine.

you should get that thing on 4 jackstands and let the wheels turn at idle. It sound like something is rubbing. One more thing when you are doing this, be really carefull.

I'm not sure about squeaking per se but I had a rubbing type sound consistant with wheel speed and it was loose lugnuts. Watch out for that.

It actually is sort of a chirpy noise.

Never changed the front or rear differential fluid, Goober!...but it's not really the grinding, gear meshing noise I hear.

I almost thought it might just be the CV joint boots. The noise doesn't change when I turn corners.

The noise is not metallic, that I can tell, but it might very well be.

The rotors are a bit warped, but I'd expect the noise to change if I applied the brakes and it doesn't.

Keep coming with the suggestions

Hey dog, sounds like a possibility.

I'll see what happens when engage the 4-wheel drive.

I'm hoping the noise will change or go away. Then we'll have it pinpointed.

thanks

Hey, if its the same squeaking noise my 98 has its coming from the leaf springs. Dodge has issued a TSB for the 98 models, im not sure on the 96's. But go to the dodge dealera and tell them the prob. I fixed mine myself, and i think it was like 20$ for parts and took about 1 hour to dix

Leaf springs....mmmmm probably not.
The rotation of either driveshaft, wheels or whatever is causing the noise, squeak, chirp!

Wheel bearings, could be.
Like I said the rotors are a bit warped, so I'm going to have to replace them soon. After I do the brake job and repack the bearings, we'll see what happens.
