I just noticed that power programmers are finally avalable for dodge vehicles but, of course, not for a dakota with a V-6. Why don't they make one for it? I was kind of dissapointed.

"thinking about it"

The aftermarket world doesnt think people actually want to modify a V6. Only the top of the line motor gets the glory.

If you look at the availability of parts... most of the V6 parts out there are from V8... roller rockers, throttle bodies, jet chips, throttle body spacers... .etc,etc.

then there are the universal parts... nitrous oxide, mufflers, cold air intakes, and ignition parts

now the V6 only mods..... jba headers

damn... we're getting screwed!

Don't forget about the special cams that Mopar Performance makes, and the high performance fuel pumps, and other mods such as porting and polishing heads and intakes. Underdrive pulleys and vast other mods. No one said Moding a Mopar was easy or fun, But is it worth it, of coarse it is, especially when the competition is looking at your tail lights.

yeah but the mopar catalog doesnt have anything for the magnum v6 other than an exhaust. they had a lot of parts for the premag but are either discontinued or hard to find. Quite honestly i wish i kept my shelby charger and modded the hell out of it... i have spent quite some money on parts for my truck (sold most of those parts though).

Intense, I thought I remember you always saying how great and fast your V-6 dakota is and that you had alot of mods. Why did you sell most of those parts?? Did you finally realize they're a waste of money and don't do much for the 3.9, like I finally realized? I have yet to get any power increases from the crap I bought and the cat-back exhuast I had actually made it lose power. God, i wish i had a V-8. And a 4.7, not the doggish, thirsty and ancient 5.2 . I'm not trying to critisize you, i just want to know why you sold those parts. As for me, i'm just concentrating on getting stuff like a spray on bed liner, running boards, and stuff like that from now on.

i have sold the nitrous, cowl hood, cold air intake, slicks, and msd 6a...

all being replace with turbocharger, gts hood, and msd btm.

i am just selling parts to get different kinds... my truck was probably gonna be the fastest when i had the nitrous... ran faster than most supercharged V8 dakotas. I could of kept investing in stuff to make it fast for the dragstrip (gears, lsd, etc) but i want to make it more of a road racing kinda thing. I hope that when i am done with my turbocharger that i will be putting out about 9-10 psi of boost with an intercooler... which with my other mods will give me close to 350-375 crank horsepower. Right now i am gonna run it at about 6 psi non intercooled and have around 300 horsepower at the crank. With the nitrous i was probably in the 300 hp area, but with a lot more off the line torque than the turbo will be able to match.

I am sorry that you havent found any performance parts that help out your motor... its just a little odd that your truck went slower with a aftermarket exhaust. I have never done anything other than a muffler and headers (no new pipes). The headers are probably the biggest waste of money that i have spent on my truck... couldnt tell a difference really, but they did look a lot better than the cast manifold. Non including the nitrous, the best mods to date were the (from best to least responsive) 1.7 roller rockers, throttle body, intake, flowmaster muffler, relocated iat, jet chip, msd stuff, headers.

i am sure that i have asked you before, but what modifications have you done to your truck?

Headers, Cat-back, cold air intake, relocate IAT sensor(useless) and thats about it for now. Any engine will scream with nitrous and/or a supercharger\turbocharger but i'm not willing to go that far due to price and the 3.9's annoying tendency to detonate\ping. I long for the torque from a V-8. If i ever get a decent job, the dodge will be gone and a silverado will be in my driveway....although i'd settle for a 4x4 ext cab V-8 Dakota. By the way, interesting picture..lol..i'd get stuck if i went through that!!

and with all that you havent even noticed a difference? hmmmmmmmmm....

i have always wanted the sound of a V8.. when this thing is payed off i plan on dropping in a V8 that sticks out of the hood! but thats not for three years:-(

i didnt get stuck on that mudding trip but i did go again and get really stuck... and really really muddy.... still looking for the pics of that... i tried to trade my truck in for a 1998 extended cab 4X4 with a 5.2.... it was only $14,000... but they noticed the nitrous solenoid.

"Any engine will scream with nitrous..."
well, it wasnt just the nitrous doing the trick because if it was then i would be at about 275 hp... but i had beat several lightnings times at the track, and never lost to a dakota or silverado..... so i would have to say i was putting out a lot more than that. what kinda gas do you use? just wondering because of the pinging... i have always put in 93 octane since i got my truck so i dont even know what the pinging sounds like.

well glad to hear that its not pinging. Try looking for a V8 throttle body at www.car-parts.com, you can find them pretty cheap and its a pretty good boost in power.

Hey Intense I can't beleive you sold your NO2 setup, I'm in the process of buying one for the old 87. As for the 3.9 being a bad engine, Slow dak, I can understand your opinion, Stock they aren't the greatest, yet the still provide more seat of the pants power and actuall performance than the 4.3 chevy makes. Not to mention that there are a lot of mods that can be done to make them really perform. Intense I just bought a Mopar performance Mag that is dedicated soley to V6 Mopars, I'll let you know what kind of parts and info it has after I get it. Oh and I'm actually building my premag into a Magnum. IT's quite the project. More updates to come.

i think the 4.3 is better....especially the newer ones....i wish i could afford to get 3.92 gears in my truck. Then i might actually be able to haul my dirt bike in the back of my truck without it bogging down. My 89 Lesabre with a 3800 V-6 and front wheel drive hauled stuff better than this thing does.

Hey Jay, (87DakBuilder)

Is that the book that I told you about? Did Nathatn find you yet about some gears he has for sale? I was going to get them, until I found out that they were out of a '92. (27 spline vise 29) I emailed him and suggested you since you have the right gen dak. I didn't give him your email, but here is a link to his post if you're interested.

request with your email and IF we come out with
one you'll be contacted. Thanks"

so in other words they dont think the v-6 is worth
the time. oh well less money for them

The power programmer is not like the jet chip. Yes, they both modify the computer settings for better performance but the jet chip has one setting only. With the programmer, you can actually customize the settings to your preferences. Once your done, unplug it and the computer is ready to go.

i had the jet stage II and it is a nice little mod but not worth paying full price. MY dad has a programmer for my moms camaro and it does a WHOLE lot more.

you can:
adjust speedo for tire size
adjust speedo for gear change
adjust air/fuel ratio
ignition timing
rev limiters
speed limiters
tranny shift points
tranny shift firmness

kinda beats out the jet thing any day.
