Hey ya'll,
I just got some new fuel injectors for my 94. Can any of you guys give me some pointers on installation of them, and how long should this take? I'm kinda fightin' the weather down here in Texas and don't have a whole lotta time in between thunderstorms! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

I've never done it myself, but what I'm learning now is that you gotta relieve pressure in the fuel system (ie: take off gas cap). Then you gotta take out the fuel rail, unplugging the neccessary hookups as needed.

But you might want more advice from someone who may have already done it.

But hell, I tried.

They don't take long. Just a couple bolts and the whole fuel rail and injectors will pull out, just disconnect the electrical connectors and the old ones will be out. Make sure you use new o-rings on the new injectors and lube thim with a little oil or gas before you slide everything back into place. Pop all the injectors into the fuel rail first, then lower the whole assembly back down onto the intake. Fire it up and check for leaks.

1. let your truck sit for about an hour to relieve pressure

2. take off air hat assembly

3. unbolt 4 bolts holding down throttle body and set aside

4. unbolt 4 bolts holding down fuel rail and pull up hard (dont have to remove it from truck)

5. remove clips from fuel injectors and pull out fuel injectors (make sure o-rings come out too)

6. put clips on new injectors making sure they are on in the same position as the old ones.

7. oil all o-rings with fresh oil

8. push fuel injectors into fuel rail and clips should snap into place

9. push fuel rail assembly into position on intake manfild...

10. bolt everything else back into place

Did you reset the PCM? I have the same truck and the same injectors and it took appox 200 miles before i could tell a difference. Really helped settle my idle and all around driving. But I also had a missfiring injector.

What do you mean, reset the pcm? Do you mean just unplug the battery for a little while?

yes, just unplug the battery and let it sit for a while. With the battery unplugged crank the motor over to make sure their is no juice anywhere. Then plug it back in, start it up and let it idle for a couple min. It usually takes approx 200 miles for the computer to learn the new items.

Thanks crak, I'll try it out. I sure hope I didn't waste my money on them. But right now I am NOT happy with them. I've lost a buttload of low end power. It really doesn't start pulling decent until it's time to shift. I used to be able to bark 1st, 2nd and 3rd like it wasn't shiot, now it's really sluggish on the take off.

If I remember right reading on a post here that the stock fuel injectors are approx inbetween 17-18lbs. It just takes a bit for the computer to learn how to use them properly.

That's what I was wondering. I didn't know what the stock injectors were. I was afraid they were either too much or not enough. As a matter of fact, I called up the dumbasses at AutoZone. I asked them what the stock injector size was for my truck, like 18#, 19#, 21#? The guy said, "You mean like how much it weighs?" I just hung up on his dumb ass. Where do they find these guys?

I've got a 2002 3.9, and I think that the 2001 uses the same injectors. They have a red body, and are 19lb. injectors overdriven to 21lb. There were a lot of posts on this topic a couple of months ago, and the consensus was that there's no need to change the stock injectors on 2000+ 3.9's. Going to the 24lb. Design 3 injectors is too much for a stock or lightly modded V6.

Have any of you guys tried putting 24lbhr injectors on a 3.9L? I think the engine should be able to cut back the fuel throw far enough to make them work. It will just run really rich in open loop (which is a good thing).

Jon,
i have the 24 lb on my truck with no power adders.... i dont recommend it. Kills what bottom end we have, hurts mid some, and wastes fuel. It will all work out once the turbo is done.

I wonder why there is all of this bad talk about FMS 19 injectors? I love mine. My milage as well as power picked up because of them. It seems you just have to have the right mods for them to work good. (intake,exhaust,v8 tb,mopar computer)

I put mine on a while ago, but i reused the o-rings... I think i have a air leak... where can i get high pressure o-rings to replace them?
The injectors were used when i bought them, so i think the fact that it doesnt seal right is from the o-rings.

Hey Intense.. you got any ideas?? I had the code read at autozone... on an OBDII scanner and it said soemthing about fuel system air leak or something like that.... i think i need to reseat my injectors.

a t25 would be a pretty darn small for our motors. They had those on some of the newer shelby models sporting 2.2s and 2.5s. I have a T3 with a .42 a/r compressor and .80 a/r turbine. Not the best choice but will get me 9-10 lbs of boost max... which is all i need.

texas,
yeah get some new o-rings and oil them up good. Any parts counter at any dealer should have them... you might have to buy a kit or something. Also make sure that your fuel injectors are in correctly (clip on the right spot).

Jon,
just stick with the stock 19lb. I ran them with a whole lot more mods and had a perfect a/f reading when i had my truck dynoed.

burnyouagain,
i understand your upset because of the speedtweaks repsonse post... but next time you should go to walmart and buy some lube before you stick your head all the way up your @$$ again!
...oh, and i am sure the rash will go away.

For what it's worth dept:

I just got my copy of J.C.Whitney's Dodge cat. Anyhoo .. they have Accel Performance Fuel Injectors. I the ad, it states the following:

Whate Flow Rate To Choose?
Multiply truck's maximum horesepower (be realistic) by 0.45 (nonturbo) or 0.55 (turbo), then divide by number of injectors. Example: For a Dodge 5.9L 250-HP 8-cylinder, multiply 250 by 0.45 and divide by 8. The result is 14.06, indicating your should order injectors with 17-lb./hour flow rate. (If the number you get after computing falls between flow rates, always select the injectors with next higher rate.)
Please note: Brake-specific fuel consumption figures of 0.45 and 0.55 are approximate; dyno testing will give you the exact figure plus exact maximum horsepower.

It then contiues with a list of injectors. Flow rates of 14,17,21,23,30 and 36 lb./hour - at $39.95 ea for 14 - 23 lb. hour, $49.95 for 30 and $69.95 for 36 lb./hour

If you don't know which injectors to install, ask Bruce at Fiveomotorsports.com, he will know.
I just installed a set of Bosch 0280150725 that he sent me. They work very well and the truck seems to be much more responsive. Hope that's not just my imagination...
Installation is no problem just make sure to depressurize the fuel system.

From the info I've gathered stick with 19# unless your not normally aspirated, go with the 24# if your S/Cd or Turbo assisted.
