Subject: Speedtweaks V6 TB kit
IP: Logged

Message:
Has anyone installed one of the kits, not the fastman kit. I have tried calling speedtweaks, as well as emailing them with no luck. I have read prior posts and am still unsure of this mod. I have a 02 reg cab Dak V6 5 speed. Only other mods are home brew intake system and high performance muffler. I read about engine stalls, cables being a pain in the tail, and various other problems. I am not a mechanically inclined person and am wondering just how much of a pain this is to install. I am considering the kit in hopes that I can forego the problems of wrong types of TBs and cables. Any input?

It's extremely easy to do. Took me less than 30 minutes to swap out the throttle body and throttle cable.

You can install a TB from any GenIII (97+) Dakota 5.2 or 5.9 engine. You can purchase them at a Dodge dealer for about $220 or you can get them from Sam on this board for around $100. He can tell you for sure what the part number is for the throttle cable. That'd be a less expensive route. It's a gamble getting it through Speedtweaks since no one knows for sure what's going on with them.

Hes right, easy to do, very little tools needed. Great performance mod. If you got a used TB, pull all sensors, clean very well, then install.

Tip, Dx the battery when you start, then connect when all done, start truck up, let it idle for good 5 min WITH OUT touching the gas, then go drive it middly for a bit to let the computer learn its new settings.

Quite easy to do, and the best mod for the price. I bought mine from someone on one of these forums. All you need is a V8 cable.

Thanks for the responses all. I will email Sam on this one. If what I have read is right, the TB cable will cost roughly $25 and if I can get a V8 TB from him for around $100.... woo-hoo!
Question though: What about what I have read in posts about rough idles, engine lights coming on, etc. Is this where people are just getting in a hurry and not reseting the PCM, or wrong parts, or...?

Yep-- I've got about 7 left right now.

I sell 'em for $90.00 + $11 shipping (that covers a box, a new TB gasket from Mopar, and $10.35 shipping to the east coast). I clean them up the best I can (go through an entire Berimans B-12 can per TB @ $1.99 a can).

You'll need a TB cable-- I don't sell them.

You can get one from your local dealership (5.2L Dakota throttle cable-- don't tell 'em any more, you'll confuse them, and not get the right part).

If you want-- you can call Cal Worthington Dodge in Carlsbad, CA. and speak with Carl Kessel in parts-- he'll hook ya up - (760) 431-1677... Tell 'em Sam from the Mopar club referred you.

If you don't buy a TB from me-- and do it yourself, make sure you DON'T soak the TB, as you'll dry out the bearings.

Question Sam,

How often do you pick up TBs and/or have them in stovk? I'm in a bit of a financial bind right now, and am looking for a good deal for as soon as I'm out. should I just hunt you down then and see, or not waste both of ours time?

Currently, F&B TBs, ANY product made by Crower, & Positive Perf. Headers---

Coming--
More stuff from F&B -- Some really cool stuff too, you'll see.
MoparPerf Products --
JBA headers --
NX --
Standard Accessories
Corbeau seats & interiors --
Hotchkis Suspension --
K&N products

As of right now, if there's something you guys want, ask me-- I'll do my best to see what I can do NOW. FYI-- I am just starting out, so I've kept it low key to get my feet wet (plus I only sell products that I use-- and will continue to do that--). I don't hide behind any BIG website-- I try to keep it simple. I am an enthusiast-- plus I enjoy working on/selling parts for the Dodge magnum powered trucks. Starting now, if you order any Crower product over $200.00 I throw in a Crower T-shirt-- Once I get a better line on the F&B T-shirt supply from Bruce, I'm trying to do the same with F&B orders. Hey, I know it's not much-- but some people enjoy wearing automotive style T-shirts :)

Yea you can vsixer. I ordered mine from a salvage yard online, then went to my dealer and got a throttle cable. Disassembled it a bit, cleaned it up, then got new gaskets and installed it. I think in all took me little over an hour.

Just try to get one that is same year as yours. But any from 97-2002 should work if your new style.

Still works on pre 96, but their is some slight modding you have to do.

I got mine for 55 bux at my door step, then 2x.xx for the cable from dealership.

Then cleaned it up, shaved the "crowns" and installed the new hat mount with it also.

dont forget to get new tb gasket before you take it apart. Be amazed what you forget when your excited.

Made very nice upgrade for less then 100 bux.
