I have a 2002 Dakota SXT and I've been told that the first mods to get are a cold air kit and performance exhaust. I am new at this, with this being the first vehicle I want to enhance, so I don't know anything about it. My truck is a 3.9, V6, automatic. If someone could help me with what cold air kit to use and exhaust I would really appreciate it. I don't want to have very loud exhaust. But if it's unavoidable, I don't mind.

Intake System and Exhaust are definitely the first mods for any of the engines.

If you want a loud exhaust get a flowmaster with a three inch single outlet tailpipe. I got that put on today and it's nice. It'll sound even better with a bigger throttle body and a better air intake, like a K&N FIPK. My friend put a V-force muffler on his 2000 4.0L ranger and waited until it was broken in. then he put an open APC cone filter on it and it made a huge difference when he gave it hell. It sounds nice.
