Hey guys,

I have a 2000 Dakota w/ the 3.9L V6 5spd. I'm not getting great gas mileage and I'm looking for a little more acceleration. I've heard K&N's work, but what kind of results will I get? I'm hesitant to spend almost $200 for the whole intake without knowing what to expect, so I was wondering if the conical or OEM is worth it. Let me know whatever you think.

My mpg has been 17-18 mixed most of the time since new and 22-23 highway.

You won't notice a lot out of the K&N alone, I installed mine at 700 miles along with the DynoMax, Sounded nice but no seat of the pants feel.

At about 5k miles I installed the V8 TB, now that kicked A$$ I could actually break the tires loose.

Then came the Crower 1.7 RR's around 9k miles, they kick in nice around 2500+ rpm.

K&N $265.00
DynoMax $50.00
V8 TB & Cable (new) $220.00
Crower 1.7 RR's $365.00

$900.00 looks like I could have had a V8

If you want to see some photos look for my Gallery at Dodge Truck World

Sasquatch421,

I agree with DakotaDan. I felt more after a TB change. But I must say that everything plays together. So just installing a new TB or air intake would not be the same as installing everything.

DakotaDan, Yeah, you could had a V8(I had the same dilemma), but I think you would have spent the same amount to get more out of the V8. I like my V6. Good MPG and now alittle more grunt. And satisfaction of working on my truck.

What do you think about those MSD wires and
the new coil? I am considering those for next
Spring...

I have a Quad cab V-6 too (4x4 though)... The
V-8 TB provided the biggest change so far I
have to say. Just curious: Can you break the
tires loose? I still can't!

Macman37,

Sorry, I missed the thread. I get a alittle screech especially between gears. She won't beat any mustang but she accellerates smartly.

On the wires. I figured the stock wires are the cheap stuff. Eventually, they would break down so I changed them to spiral wound MSD.

On the coil. I think I would have waited until I get the Accel 300+ kit. It has the coil as part of the package. When I get the 300+ kit, I'll have two coils.

On both items. They didn't add up to much on power, just reliability like the cap and rotor (although the stock cap & rotor have aluminum contact, the after market stuff is brass. So if the Al corrode it will affect the spark.)

That site for ignition is great.

Thanks guys.

I've been looking into the V8 TB and I think I'm gonna get one. I'm a little apprehensive because I paid for an extended warranty and don't want to void it.

I've contacted a few junkyards through carpart.com and none of them have a TB for less than 75 +s/h.

I removed that rubber flat beside the radiator to improve airflow, haven't really noticed any benefits yet.

And, would a rear end without positraction leave a burnout from each tire? As far as I can tell I do not have it and yet I leave two tracks when I spin my tires. I don't know much about rear ends... on vehicles anyway, women, well thats a little different...

Removing the flap will do no good if you have the stock air box, look at the plastic elbow that is plugged into the side of the fender That is where the air box gets it's cold air from the flap directs the air to it.
