i replaced mine on my 1994 dakota, the fan bolts to the fan clutch, which then threads on the front of the motor. i couldnt get mine off, i knew someone at a shop he took it off. it cost me like 35 bucks from a part store for the clutch. it made me v6 sound fierce though, when you rev it the fan pushing the air, sounds nice. i hope this is any help.

Take it off,replace it with an electric fan.You'll free up a little HP and get more consistant cooling in stop and go traffic.
