I have a 2001 Dak 4x4 c/c. The engine knocks when idling and at low speeds. Once it warms up for a while it's not as bad. It's been doing it for a while. It only has 15,000 miles. Bought it new. Does anyone else have this problem?

Could be piston slap, which would be normal. The dodge dealer could tell you for sure but almost all new trucks make a light knocking noise when cold because everyone is using short skirt pistons to reduce friction. I would get the dealers thoughts on it just to make sure there isn't a real problem that can be fixed under warrenty.

Do you have low oil pressure at an idle? If it's a slight knocking could be just a bad lifter or maybe a timing chain. Just looking for a better outcome than a motor rebuild for rod and or main bearings. If its a bad knock, have the Dodge rep. check it out if the dealer doesn't want to fix it. Do this before any warrenty runs out.

mdandl,
I went to my dealer and he said I had a defective crank shaft. They are replacing my short block (just found out that means the entire lower engine and long block means complete engine). So anyone else out there might want to be aware of this problem. I hope this is just an isolated case.

Maybe you should try some thicker oil, or a bottle of Lucas oil treatment to quiet it down. (If you don't get a motor swap)
