i was driving home last night from the womans house and i was playing with a few ricers, at one point i floored it at around 20mph, the tranny dropped into first like always but it redlined waaaay to early, i looked down and i saw the needle bouncing at 3500rpm! i was like WTF! so i let off right away. kept drivin for a minute or 2 watching my tach. everything was normal. i have heard people say maybe adjusting the tv cable will fix this. it hasnt acted up at wot since last night, that was the only time. truck has 38,000miles. anyone???

I have a 2000 auto Dak w/41,000 miles on it that would slip in and out of gear(very quickly) at highway cruising speed. Then about a week ago I needed to pass someone, and I floored it. Well when the RPMs got to the point where it was supposed to shift,it didn't. Instead, it hesitated-bad-. It wouldn't shift until I let off. I took it to the dealer to fix it(still under an extended warrenty). It turned out to be a valve body in the tranny. Under demand this allows more trans fluid in, causing more pressure to allow the shift. Hope this helps some of you.

lol, well from what i know about my dakota, the valve body is THE most important part of your trans, its the entire brains! well i guess it was to difficult for those guys to throw a new one in rather than search for the problem. figures, lol, you should consider yourself lucky to have a brand new vavle body. im jelous

in older vehicles the engine speeding way up and the car/truck not going as fast as it should be going at that rpm, under the curcumstance you stated, (downshift at wot) used to be the first and sometimes only warning that the clutches in your tranny are about fried and are ready to fail.

Oh yeah, I should have stated this before-I love to drive fast & push IT to the limit.Hopefully, that's why it went out. Another fact I thought you might want to know is that it would've cost me $650.00 to fix(if it weren't for the warrenty).
