drove a 99 maxima today. wasnt all that quick but i bet it would take out any dak short of an R/T. the 02 and 03 will do that just fine. i found an 01 for $17,550 with 15k i want to sell my dak to my bro and get that and that way i dont even really lose my dakota...hehe

Well, you must have some SAD V6 there. I have no problem staying with V6 Maximas, and I drive the V6 Auto Ram. What do you do, drive it backwards, or something? LOL. The Magnum V6 is not the best V6 engine, granted, however if you add some mods like I and others have, it will work for you. If you don't like your V6, sell your Dakota and buy that Maxima. And I doubt that Maxima you drove would take out Bernd's V6 Dakota.
Hey, Bernd, nice truck you have there! You sure show the doubters what the 3.9 V6 can do. Do you know anyone who has successfully installed a Grand National turbo on to the magnum V6. My neighbor has a Grand National (He has had 3 at one time), and he knows all about that turbocharger. I believe I can buy one from him. I would love to put that turbo on, if at all possible. Putting on a supercharger will probably cost a LOT more than this turbo installation. Anyway, let me know, O-K?

Does anybody here know that V6 Dakotas are for towing and pushing power, and not for racing Grand Nationals and Nissans. My Dakota pulls my sleds just fine, Which is why I bought it! For racing, My 1994 Eagle Talon TSI will run 11.05@123mph all day every day with no NOS.

I have to agree with 98DakSLT,
When my barely modded [for now :) ]3.9L Dak can't do what I want it to do, then I'll rethink my decision to get a 6er. If I was into racing or speed I surely wouldn't be driving an ~4000lb V6 4x4 truck. I'm not a racer at all, but I say hats off to the guys who are making their 6ers faster. It hauls just fine for me. I have no problem keeping up with/merging with traffic. I certainly haven't had any problems off road. So when there is something I need my 6er Dak to do that it can't and I begin to regret buying it,Sh-tzu, I'll let you know.

My brother has a 97 Maxima and it went 15.1 (that's quarter mile)with a K&N filter and a B pipe with 90,000 miles on it. Not to dis the V6ers but there aren't many that will do that.

i think the dak v6 is crap i have it. it gets you around town but when you feel like gettin on the gas itrs like an insult... it drops 1 maybe 2 gears and just gets louder its embarrasing to know that... thats y instead of wasting my time with some bolt-on part ill buy a 5.9 with a tranny and a new rear end for the same price as a supercharger, so i dont have added problems to just keep up with the big boys

The GrandNational ran a T4-Garret turbo, as opposed to the Mitsubishi turbo in the syclone which had a huge problem with burning up all of the time.
Alot of GN guys like to run TA's these days, most with the TA-49 model.
These V6'es are obviously the acception and luckily im alittle bit more cultured (though I fully realize you guys probably think I am about as uncultured as they come...)
See... You guys arent supposed to dig up the good side to the history of the 6, your supposed to get mad and throw a fit and say "V6'es are good too!"

Btw Alex, my dad works along side Kent Rudebek at the Chryslter plant in NewCastle IN, 2nd fastest Buick Turbo 6 in the country running in a 7.86 at 176 mph if im not mistaken...
My dad has a 12 second GN himself.

Dodge 3.9's suck cock. I don't care what anyone says. God, i wish i could get rid of this thing.But the trade in value would kill me!! Cause the market knows they suck!! (1999 Ext cab V-6 4x2). What a pig!! And an unreliable, spark knocking piece of Sh-t at that!!! It seems that every remedy that is offered on here for increasing power and performance for 3.9's either doesn't do anything or makes it even more ball-less!!!. (besides perhaps superchargers or NOS but i'd hate to use those on a detonation-prone engine). OK, first mod i tried : Headers(cause stock manifolds got a leak so i figured i'd get headers since i have to take off the old ones anyways(no gaskets on the stock ones!!How gay!!No wonder they leaked after only 30,000 miles!!). Headers did nothing to help power/economy. Gibson cat back system: made it actually lose power and sounded like rice-burning fag-mobile. Took off the next day. 180 T-Stat: made it lose power and smell like sh-t (i.e. converter smell, due to inadequate temp). This engine has just sucked since day one and nothing seems to help. It just sucks, plain and simple!!! If you don't like that, bite that!!!

My 3.9 is just a temp motor until I drop my 360 (380hp) magnum in there =). As for coming on our message boards posting BS like "American suck import rules because I say it does!" Go back to your mindless conversations of AOL chat rooms and Instant Messaging. I don't know how you can say the V6 sucks...
Mine fires up on the first try all the time and has never broken down with anything worse than water in the ignition coil contact. It's towed trailers, other vehicles, and been grossly overloaded in the bed (lotsa hay). I pulled a Tandem axle U-haul from Michigan to Florida at 80MPH. Biggest problem was the fact that the trailer tended to 'push' the truck under heaving braking (almost jacknifed it when I came over a hill to find traffic -stopped-) and the gas milage was something around 12mpg.
Normally I'm getting 18-24MPG (city/highway) with a respectable 'up to speed' time. Sure, its not super fast, but I'm faster than probally 50% of the people out there in getting to merge speed. I have no problem passing on the highway either, and have not noticed the aformentioned 'drop down a gear and it just makes more noise'. God it must suck to have an auto. :0)

DaneMan - I'd have to agree with you.
SloDak - if you hate it so bad, then get rid of it. I've got a stock dak and am proud of it. Runs and drives like a champ. It's not a racing machine (sport) but it will crush most other vehicles on the road that are comparable in it's class. I'm a firm believer that if you service your vehicle and take care of it like you should, it should last a long time. Maybe you messed it up when doing a mod.....? hmmmmm - are you missing a wrench.

i thought the buicks came with either a T3 or T3/T4 hybrid. I got mine off of the earlier non intercooler model. its a TB0301. Not the best but i can safely run 9 lbs or intercooler boost. With my other mods should take me around 300 rwhp.

I didn't mess anything up when i did the mods. It was ball-less to begin with. Yes, my truck always starts and has never stranded me but the power is just awfull. I've been looking to get rid of it but no one will give me enough for a trade in. Don't get me wrong, i like dakotas but i need
some V-8 torque. I've been looking for a 4x2
4.7L but its hard to find around here(Buffalo,NY....everyone has 4x4's..lol). Everyone that has ever driven or rode in my truck can't believe what a dog it is.

thanx... i have been there before trying to find parts for mine but everything seems to be discontinued. Somehow i found some 2 1/2" to 2 1/4" header reducers that fit it... most reducers are 3" to 2 1/2".
just curious...

The 3.9 v/6 is a TRUCK engine with a cam that makes most it`s power below 3000 rpm, which does a dandy job of hauling heavy loads or towing boats,trailers,etc. If you want a real fast engine, drop a small block v/8 with a race cam to achieve low quarter mile speeds. But good luck on your towing!
