Subject: 2000 4X4 front bearings???
IP: Logged

Message:
Got not response in the General Forum so I thought I try here:

I'm getting a very small vibration through the steering wheel which goes away when turning left but gets a little worse when turning right. I'm supsecting the left wheel bearing is going bad, but with only 44,000 miles on it that would be surprising. Any recommendations on what it could be or what to look for? And from searching the forum it looks like you can't replace the bearing, true or not?

Thanks
Bret

I don't know anything about 4x4s, and mine is a 97, but if they are the same, you have to replace the whole hub. The symptoms were the same on my truck, it was the passenger bearings that went. The bearings are sealed, and I had to buy the hub from Chrysler ($200 Canadian). I got them installed by my mechanic so I can't really say anything about the installation.

97 3.9 CC Sport. JBA stainless headers, Borla Turbo XL stainless muffler & tip, 17 x10 Boyd Coddington Smoothies, FMS injectors, V8 TB, Quick D stainless air intake, Have but not Installed yet: 5.9 litre 360

Well at least that helps confirm my suspicions except I’m guessing your symptoms were the exact opposite since it was the passenger side. AutoZone sells the hub for $175. Doesn’t look too bad to replace according to the Haynes Manual. It is ashamed that with only 44000 miles I have to replace the hub assembly, that is just a part that shouldn’t go this early in the trucks life. Will certainly make me thing 2 about buy another Dak in the future.
