Subject: A/C Clutch-Help

Message:
I have a 1994 Dakota 2wd 3.9L 185k miles. The A/C clutch has been making a squeeling sound for quite some time, but seems to only squeel at low rpm's, it is not the compressor because it makes the sound with it disengaged. Also if I squirt a little WD-40 in the back of the clutch it quiet's it for a little bit. Is there a sealed bearing in the clutch that can be replaced. If not is there a way to replace just the clutch assembly w/o breaking the system. In order to pull the clutch is there any special tools I must acquire. Thanks for the help.

First I would make double sure that it's the A/C clutch that is making the noise and not the belt it's self or some other pully.

Second I'm pertty sure that it is a sealed bearing in the A/C clutch. If it is making the noise and you want to do it your self you will need special A/C clutch puller kit. Because there are so many different sizes out there they have kits and they can be a little steep price wise.

Just call or go to you local Auto Parts Store and tell them your year make model and what you need and they should have what you need unless it's a dealer only idem for the Bearings anyway. The clutch puller kits they should have.

The new bearing I think will come with instructions on how to disasimble and assimble the clutch and stuff.
I did one on a 98 chevy 3500 back in 2000 and I didn't have to open the system to do it.

I'm a Auto Mechanic in the Air Force.

Thanks for the help, I saw some universal A/C clutch pullers on Ebay for 39.99, hopefully that'll do the duty. Im pretty sure its that A/C bearing because when I shoot a little oil behind the pully while its running, the noise disappears. Thanks again.
