Well, it must have some kind of recirculating device......nox emmisions would be sky high without it.......

No they quit the EGRs in 96' I think and there is no provision for exhaust to get into the intake. I have had many of these engines apart and no tube in the intake or anyting along that line. I think they must have solved the NOx emmissions problem with computer programing and catalytic convertor performance.

Could very well be part of it. Poorly designed combustion chambers as well I would suspect.

Hi i have a 93 dodge dakota 3.9L V-6 magnum, I was wondering if they have a egr valve on these engines. i think the manual states they do, and if they do would it be worth it to remove it for some extra power? thanks

93 does, but I think it's been mentioned on this site before removing it wont gain you any ponies.

These engines do not have EGR from 1996 to 2004, due to being able to pass without it. EGR returned in 2005.

Removing EGR will not give extra power or gas mileage. The computer will compensate the mixture, and you will be committing a felony.

Hi, I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4 with the 4.7L V8. I have been having problem with the engine hunting at any speed, it doesn't matter if it's idling or driving down the highway at 120 km/h. The engine will rev up anywhere from 200-500 rpm. Any help would be great.

thanx.

Sylvain

Sylvain, more than likely you have a vacuum leak somewhere... Just look at all of the vacuum lines for any cuts or to see if any of them are unhooked...

It could also be a bad gasket, however the only way to do the carb cleaner or starting fluid trick is to watch the scan tool o2 sensor outputs... Basically you would spray "small squirts" of the cleaner at various points around the intake manifold and watch to see if the o2's read richer at any point... The point where it would read richer is where the leak would be...

You could try tightening down bolts such as intake manifold and tb bolts to see if it helps any, but don't go too tight, because there's always the possibility of braking one...

If it's not a vacuum leak then it could also be a leaking fuel injector "one that never completely closes off"... This would cause kinda the same problems...

Thanx for your help! I check for vaccum leak yesterday and could not find any abvious one. I decided to start ripping some sensors out to see what they looked like. I took the TPS out and it looked ok. I then took the IAC(not sure if that the name for it)but it was the sensor just under the TPS. It was covered with black soot so i cleaned it and put it back in. I started the truck afterward and everything is good now.

What were the codes? It sounds like either low battery voltage or your IAC valve is clogged/sooted up. Have you done anything lately maintenance wise to it, i.e. plugs, wires, dist cap/rotor, air filter, etc?

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

hey john. i just had the same problem with my 96 dodge dakota. my problem was it wouldn't idol or if it did it would die at a stop position. the fact is it turned out to be a clogged idol air control. i also changed my throttle position with just made it start easyer. my bet would be the iac.

In very cold weather often a little moisture condenses in the vacuum line to the MAP sensor, or in the sensor itself, and can trip a code. Sometimes blowing it out gently with a little filtered air helps. You may have gotten ice in the new sensor or its hose.
