Well, what year is it? It makes a difference. :0)

I've heard of Viper V10s being stuffed into Dakotas, but it's a lot of work. The 5.2L and 5.9L will fit just fine, you'll just need the wiring harness and computer for them. You may be able to get one of the RAM V10s in. I'd -love- to see someone stick a Cummings Turbo Diesal in a Dakota. That'd be really cool.

someone(i forget the name) is currently in the process of putting the cummins turbo diesel in a dakota and will attempt to break the diesel land speed record. ive seen this posted on this site and its mentioned in the last couple issues of sport truck magazine. the person doing this is not involved w/ this site however.

ross,
any rim sizes up to 22s will fit a dakota. you cant lower it if its on 22s though. i have 20s which fit fine and will lower mine as well shortly. the price depends on what components you use to lower it

Gale banks is the one who is building the cummins dakota for the landspeed record. He is looking for a 210mph run out of it. I looks mean as hell with it's pro-stock hood, blood red paint and balcked out windows. I have seen a ranger with the cummins in it at the desiel truck show. Looked funny, especially when it ran in the low 12's!

I've never see the v10 swap done even thou everyone has talked about it. The length of the motor is the real problem. I don't know how easy it is to make space for a large motor in the new ones(cluttered engine bay), but I could easily drop a big block in my 93'. I would have to move back the fire wall and/or move the radiator to fit the v10 in my truck. I could probably fit any v8 without much trouble, I have the space in width needed to fit them. I have seen in my HotRod mags. the build-up of the 528ci crate hemi in the newer dakota.

Thier is always the saying "The sky is the limit." There is also the one that says "Speed costs money how fast do you want to go?" The choose is up to who ever wants to try one of the big swaps.

Chrysler/Dodge did a show truck a few years back that was a wildly modified Dakota with a V10 under the hood. I can't recall the name for it right now, Sidewinder or something. From the looks of it, the engine swap forced plenty of sheet metal (and possibly frame) modifications. There was not much of anything stock left on it.
Hey, Ross. Keep the V6! They're sweet little motors that respond well to mild updates. If you really want a V8, sell your current Dak and buy one that came stock with an eight already in it. IMHO, it would be a lot less hassle. There's tons of V8 Dakotas out there to choose from...

I think it's something akin to what you have to do to stick a small block Chevy in a S10. IE: New front suspension and cross-members for the weight, move the firewall back, move the mounts and reinforce them, and probally you have to go with a thin radiator and low-profile electric fans (doubt there is room for a clutch fan).

It'd be a -lot- of work. Personally I want to get my hands on a 5.2L or a 5.9L and drop it into a Club Cab with a 6-speed. Heh. When I graduate and start working for EA, maybe I can do that... heh, right...

Are you sure it was a V12? I thought it was a V10.

How much HP does who put out? Or do you mean to ask how much does the 5.2 put out roughly?

http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/specs/index.html

Has some pretty good info... You should be able to fit a 5.9 as well, since it's about the same size physically as the 5.2.

Here's some info on engine swaps and whats needed...
