Alirght so i'm coming home from a pretty cool date, and this extreme with blue headlights (extd-cab) comes up next to me, and floors it, I floor it, and we weave through traffic and get a red, light goes green, I get a little spin, I'm in front, he comes up, I shift, I pull forward a legnth, then he shifts and pulls up next to me and keeps moving... I have to shut down cause my lane is now merging. Before I shut down, I was looking at his tailights.. really close though (i could read the DOT #).. Anyway is this normal? I'm 100% sure it was a 4.3 5-speed, cause at the light, his brake lights were off... Anyway he waved when he turned off, and I flashed my lights, so no hard feelings... anyway just thought I would share...

Yup, that's normal...

The 4.3 is a good engine and the s-10 is lighter than our trucks. The 5-speeds have an open differential and 3.08 gears, which slows them down a tad. Many magazines have tested the auto Extreme (3.42 gears and limited-slip), usually running mid 16s (16.5 is the norm). I've seen many 5-speeds run low 16s to high 15s with better gears, limited-slip, and a few other bolt-ons. I know of one guy with a single cab s-10 5-speed, 3.08 gears, open-diff, powerpulleys, intake, and slicks and he managed a 15.6 (not bad).
He then added a couple more bolt-ons, 3.42 gears plus a limited-slip and ran a 14.8! He did not stop there; with a 100 shot (spraying off the line) of nos he managed a 13.5!
His tranny busted shortly after, so he swapped in a t56 6-speed from a Camaro and 4.10 gears. The engine also got a better cam, ported heads and TB, which helped him run a 12.5 @ 107 mph!!

Don't get fustrated if you lose, from the times I've seen at the track, at least your close. Oh, s-10s seem to have better top end power (less weight)than our trucks, which die off a tad. At the track I'm usually killing them until about the 1/8, after this point they make it a closer race. A few more mods and he'll be seeing your lights.

I was talking to this car dealer and he told me that extreems come with a 2.2ltr 4cyl. all of them, so it probaly was a 4.3 with a extreem body kit.

The dealer you talked to is dead wrong (is it me or does this happen often). Go the Chrevrolet website, you can order the Extreme with a 2.2 or the 4.3 and decide between stick or auto. If that's not enough, I've got a few buddies that purchased the Extreme with the v6 right off the dealer lot.

A cohart at work bought a new S10 4.3l (not an extreme) and he can't come close to my R/T. By the time I hit 2nd gear I'm a full truck length ahead of him and he falls away even more when I hit 3rd. There's a 10 mile stretch of country road from his house into town that is almost perfectly straight. In 2 miles I can be so far ahead of him that I can come to a complete stop and take off again before he has time to barely pull up beside me. He can get along beside me and then I'm gone again. There's no way a stock 4.3 will run with any V8 Dakota much less an R/T. You probably could beat a 3.9L. The 3.9L is too small for the Dakota.

comparing an s10 extreme to a 3.9 is apples to oranges. the 4.3 is the biggest engine in an s10 and the 3.9 is the med engine for the dak. put the s10 4.3 aginst a dakota 5.2 or *hehe* the 5.9 and your askin for trouble. the 3.9 is plenty of engine for my dak, the v8s' must be reeel nice :-P
just my .02

In regards to the post about the 4.8 Silverado & the Ram sport. The day that I bought my Dakota I test drove a Silverado with a 4.8 extended cab..it wouldnt pull the hat off your head.Hell, from a dead stop it wouldnt spin the tires over.Later in the day I bought another Dakota..an '02 RC Dakota 3.9 (my 2nd one)its an auto, but seems ALOT more peppy than the Silverado,I drove a Dodge ram the same day (4 Door)...it was an '02 same as the Silverado,Im not sure of the engine 4.7 ..4.8 I cant remember, what I DO remember is that it was ALOT stronger than the Silverado.
I have nothing against GM,just at this day & time I think Dodge has them beat,& has a better product.
