I know this is the V6 board..yes I have a V6 Dak...but I also have a 87 Dak that had a 4 cyl in it. I bought it to put a V8 in. Does anyone know if you can safely notch out the K member on a truck to make modified engine mounts? I know I could get the kit from Schumaker, but I dont have the $500 it takes to buy it. I think I have found a way to notch the K member, weld in 2X5 box steel and bolt the engine in forward of the existing mounts by about 4 inches. Suppose its safe?? I'll be using 1/4 box steel to do it, in case anyone is wondering. Any response is appreciated. Yes, its a smallblock w/727.

I know I can fab the mounts, the question is, can I modify the K member without sacrificing the steel's integrity. Or will it cause stress cracks and breakage? I plan on notching it 2 inches down on each side, then welding in the box steel, and welding a piece of plate steel over the whole area for strength. wish I could draw a diagram.
