What year is your Dakota? These valve covers will not fit magnum engines. There are currently no aftermarket valve covers for magnum v6's other then the same style, but powder-coated or nickle plated.

intense99dak,

I have a 97 Dakota Sport 4x4. I called and spoke with jeg's customer service and I had asked them if they would fit the 97+ Dakotas and they said that is what they are listed for.

If anybody has ordered these and they indeed do not fit the 97+ V6 Dakota please let me know

Thanks

Call the customer service guy and ask how many mounting holes there are in the valve covers Jeg's is selling. I bet it's 5. Your valve covers have 10 mounting holes.

Here's another thread dealing with these covers
http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/149.html

And a DML FAQ link

http://www.dakota-truck.net/faq/Engine/v6_valve_covers.html

I looked for a picture online of these covers, but couldn't find any.

intense99dak,

Thanks for the extra info I will call them and ask them how many bolt holes there are. But correct me if im wrong isnt there only 8 bolts per valve cover on the 3.9l V6. Or is there two more bolts tha you cant see very easily?

Thanks

Dan,

i know which covers you are talking about. They are stated that they are for the magnum six but i never looked into it. They are the mopar performance ones straight out of the catalog. I think they were discountinued though. Summit used to have them but dont anymore and jegs lowered the price on them by $10 from last year. They look just like ours but are shiney. I have an old 2000 mopar catalog that they are in but dont know if they still carry them either.

edelbrock intake, modified manifold, headers, flowmaster, 24lb injectors, mp throttle body, 1.7 rr, msd 6a, msd wires, blaster 3, b&m shifter, shift kit, coilovers, drag shocks, ladderbars, panhard bar, 150# coils, electric fan, oil cooler, 180 thermostat, autolite 3923, corbeau seats, slicks, mojo

intense99dak,

Just got off of the phone with Jeg's and they said that they did not know for sure but that the picture they had only showed 5 mounting holes. Oh well just have to wait for somebody to make them. Until then I think I will just paint the ones I have. Thanks for your help intense99dak

I actually called Mopar Performance at 1-800-362-3569 and they told me that Mopar does not make any valve covers for the current magnum v6 motor. Also the one that Jeg's sells (Part# P4452042) WILL NOT FIT THE NEWER MAGNUMS acording to the Mopar Performance techs.

Thanks

Dan - Sorry about the misinformation on the bolts ... you're correct with 8 bolts. I wish I wasn't correct with the valve covers either. I would gladly eat a helping of crow if there were some covers for our v6's (other then the same style w/ different finishes). Maybe one of these centuries someone will wake up and realize that v6 owners have money and desire to upgrade their motors and make some chrome goodies for us.

IntenseDak39 - Have you noticed how many variables to "our" names there are? No wonder people get confused :-)

I have a set of these on my old style 39er. I was told they will fit on the magnum, just minus the other bolts. I think that Mopar Action magazine put a set of old style covers on a magnum engine they did. They fit, just not with as many bolts. If you can get your hands on a old stocker piece and put it on you'd probaly know right away if it'll work on the magnum.

i got an idea...

you guys let me borrow $50... i buy them... see if they fit... and let you know how if it does!!!

sound like a plan? please?

hehe j/k

but they do look like the magnum ones. i know that the old style V8s fit the magnum... just different amount of bolt holes... if i had the money and the need for shiney chrome parts i would just get them and drill a few more holes..

I hate to be the barer of bad news here but.....do you guys realize our little V6's are going out of production? that means what isnt made for them now most likely will never be made for em.
Guys like Speedtweaks and Krc and all will probably keep on producing a few parts here and there but only if they sell, soon it wont be cost affective for them to make HP stuff for 3.9's any longer.

I know this is a big pisser but I am a realist.

I've got a set of the older (PreMagnum) covers on my Dakota. They do fit but you'll need some valve cover hold downs to make sure they don't leak. Also, the Oil Breather and PCV are in different locations so you you'll need to extended the vacuum hoses to the manifold and breather. If you're running the 1.6 or 1.7:1 rollers, you'll have to tap the baffles down a bit (they sit in the center of the covers)...or just remove them and tack-weld some smaller ones on there (before you install them - makes it easier on keeping the weld clean).

There is another company working on some BILLET covers for the Magnum V6 (and V8) which include a removable cover for rocker adjustments...and they're also taller (with baffles) to clear the 1.7:1 rollers without any issues. They should be ready in about 4-6 weeks if all goes good.
