I have driven both the 5-speed and automatic versions of the dakota, and i can't figure out why the auto is so much slower. I know having a 5-speed gives you a little more power, but there is a huge difference between the two. I swear sometimes i could outrun a 3.9 V6 auto with my 2.5 I-4 5-speed.

thats the biggest load of $hit ive ever heard, i can race stick dakotas same size similar mods and get similar results. it depends on how you drive, you pop the clutch a little in the stick dakota and take off, hold the brake in the auto and hit the gas (pre-load tq converter) it just like popin a clutch, the 3.9 auto and stick dakotas in my opinion are very similar in performance based on racing experience

Except for the whole driveline power loss bit...

I've heard as high as 27% on the autos, and as low as 13% on the sticks. Don't know whats true, but I know the dynos show a difference.

But like you said, it's dependant on the driver. If you preload the auto before launch, it's gonna do just fine! If you just hammer it from a dead stop without preload, your going to get some launch lag.

Yeah i think i gotta stick with my 5 speed buddies on this one...it is faster in my opinion than the autos. Plus...where is the fun? Shifting is the best part! Unless you are stuck in traffic, then its a beotch!

5SPDS ARE NICE AND ALL BUT IT DOES DEPENDS ON THE DRIVER I HAVE BEATEN A LOT OF PEOPLE DRIVING 5SPDS THAT CANT DRIVE THEM CAUSE THEY CANT SHIFT QUICK ENOUGH.

WHEN I HAD MY NEON I BEAT THE NEW MITSU ECLIPSE GT THAT HAVE THOSE V-6'S CAUSE HE COULD NOT SHIFT QUICK ENOUGH.

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE DRIVER
