Subject: F&B TB Install

Message:
Today I installed the F&B 48mm TB on my 00 3.9L QC 5spd. I used the factory V6 TB cable as the factory V8 TB cable was not compatable (The linkage from the TB cable would not fit over the ball stud on the TB).

Here is my question - Is the gas pedal supposed to be REALLY stiff?

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks

Swingman,

Congrats on the F&B TB. I didn't notice the stiff pedal at first. After you mentioned about it, I do notice it to be slightly stiffer. I realized this because my wife gets the herky jerky head movement when I step on the gas a little too hard and I quickly release to compensate. I tell her it's too much power LOL!! She thinks it's bad clutch management. When the engine warms up this slight inconvience goes away. And I thought it was just better throttle response. LOL!!!! I could live with this. Write to Jeff, F&B. He is pretty responsive. Good luck and I hope everything is going well for you.

The V6 F&Bs have V6 linkages... no need to change the cable to a V8 cable (you found that out by now!).

Make sure you have the throttle cable running below the plastic 'pulley'... Otherwise, your off idle pedal effort will be VERY high.

Let me know if you have any issues.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply. Please excuse my ignorance, but where is the plastic pulley that you are referring to? You're my man when I'm ready for the Crower 1.7 rockers.

Harvey,

It's great to hear from you! You and I have very similar mods. I'll let you know how all the mods I installed last night improved performance. I installed the FMS XL2E 19lb injectors, F&B 48mm TB, MSD 6A ignition/Blaster SS coil, regapped the 3923's to .45, tweaked the TPS to .7v [was .3v from the factory :(], cleaned the IAC solenoid and K&N cone filter.

Here is my current set up:

K&N FIPK
F&B 48mm TB
JBA headers
Gibson exhaust (single exit)
MSD 6A ignition
MSD Blaster SS coil
MSD 8.5mm wires
Autolite 3923's
BW cap/rotor
IAT adjuster
FMS XL2E 19lb injectors
TPS at .7v

00 3.9L QC 5spd 2x4 3.55

Thanks guys!

Whoa!!! Swingman. You're way ahead of me on mods. I have a lot of catching up to do. I think around X-mas, I might spring for a Accel 300 ignition. Was setting the TPS tp .7v worth it? Was installing the injectors easy? I'm not sure if I want to tackle that just yet. I just dropped $1400 on my wife's car for two exhaust manifold pre cats. One of the emergency tasks. Keep me updated and thanks.

The TPS mod and injector swap were very easy to do with the directions I found from this site.

I would have to say that the TPS mod is worth doing just because of how simple it is and it's free. I suggest replacing the OEM injectors when it's time for them to be professionally cleaned.

If you're budgeted, replace it as you need it. I have been working part time to be able to afford more mods. My primary income is being saved for my new house.
