To O/D or not to O/D is the ? I have a 98 Dodge Dakota cc with close to 57000 miles on it. And i was wondering, is there a max speed you should go with the Over Drive off? If so please tell me the speed. And my other question is, my truck red lines at 4700 yet it continues to 5200 or 5300 before shifting under Full Throtle. Just wondering if thats a bad thing. Thanx in advance yall.

Redlines at 4700? Huh, my tach doesn't redline until 5000 (overlay though). I think thats like, the -orange- line your talking about. :0)

There is a rev-limiter to prevent you from blowing the engine. Although I wouldn't want to run it at or near redline for long periods of time. Not like there is much power there anyway...

As for the OD? It's just that. Over-Drive. It's a gear that is -above- the normal drive gear. It's for gas milage. If your not towing anything, go ahead and use it. If your in the mountains, probally turn it off... thats up to you. You'll get better milage with it on, but if you notice the tranny 'hunting' between 3rd and OD, switch it off.
