Subject: Any Weight Mods???
IP: Logged

Message:
Now I know that most people that drive dakotas use them as their main vehicle, but what would be some timeworthy weight modifications that would eventualy drop a tenth or two in the 1/4 mile.
I thought about the heavy full size spare and that's comming off today because my roll pans going on next week. I know the back seat only weighs like 1pound. Anyone have some ideas to shed a little weight? I think alot of us are interested on a topic like this! (FREE MODS!!!)

If you dont plan on driving in the rain much and dont use it for a daily driver take out all of the inner fender of the engine bay, get an electric fan and for racing only drop the sway bar.
Also take off all the bracketry for the spare tire and if possible relocate the battery to the rear somewhere.

All mods I have done.

Just remember: every 100lbs is a tenth (I think, :-D>)

I know its not "free mods" but you can get fiberglass hood and bumpers.

I took about 200lbs off mine and I can tell you I could feel the difference!!

Good luck

Page 232 of the 02' catalog you could get a pro stock truck carbon fiber body from Jerry Haas and get lexan windows? It would be nice but way too expensive!

Back to reality, you could get light weight rims and tires. I have read in my magazines that taking a pound off your wheels is equal to taking 7lbs off the truck itself. Another possibility is to replace any steel pieces with ones made out of aluminum(brackets, clyinders, block). I don't know the specs. on you truck ie.(year, motor, trans), but the best advice would be to try to take a little from different places and it will add up fast.

speaking of wieght...anyone know how much r/t rims weigh? just curious

gooberlog.... i have a pretty much stock r/t...and this is what ive done to remove weight

take out spare tire #1..
cut off exhaust pipe past muffler installed a turn down pipe
fiberglass hood..fiberglass roll pan.
took the jack out from behind the pass seat
removed center console
took the softball bat out from behind my seat
left my 9mm at home
removed maglight from glove box
left all cds at home except system of a down
( was contemplating removing my 10" subs but cant bear headbanging without some sort of bass...)
like that one guy said... get rid of fat chicks..break up with g/f....piss off all of your friends...hehe (like anyone else actually lets their friends ride in their dak with them...lol)
you do...? what??? really??
j/k
also..if you REALLY wanna get serious...get rid of power doors windows etc.... you could remove the heater/airconditioning..that would help.... anything hanging from rear view mirror..lol
im weird about the weight thing..every time i look at my truck i think "man, theres gotta be something i can take off this thing...
you know its bad when you search the frame over for bolts that dont have a purpose...hehe

well here are my guesses on just the items i removed (not replaced)

bumper 75 lbs
spare tire & assembly 40-50 lbs
compressor/condensor/evaporator 50lbs
center console 20 lbs
splash shields 25 lbs (both)
heat shields 10 lbs
tail gate guts 30-40 lbs
airbox assembly 10-15 lbs
washer fluid 5 lbs

all in all i would say close to 300 lbs... but i want more!! hehe

i dont want the airbags because when some stupid @ss hits me it will just be more costly to replace. Besides the steering wheel will stop me ;-)

...and airbags go pretty good on eBay!

is it illegal to take out airbags?

i dont know if it is illegal but i know that in 97 and up it was manditory that car manufacturers put 2 air bags in cars...

to keep from killing yourself...

disconnect battery at both terminals and wait 5 minutes for the airbag system to loose power.

have fun!

Why would you worry about that? your exaust is like 6" form the bed, how much you really think those flimsy heat shields do?

I see your back to listin your mods Intense, whats that all bout? feeling threatened by a little Va Dak? I crack myself up!!!
