Subject: POLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
I just wanted some opinions on painting. I need to basically paint my whole bed over when i am done with it, paint some spots here and there, paint my bumper to match and such. I (of course) have the intense pearl blue paint. I am gonna learn how to paint by myself and do all the work myself. Now i have been told that it is hard to lay down a pearl paint and it is very easy to screw it up. On the other hand i have always liked Plum Crazy Purple (just as much as my Blue).

here's the question.....

should i keep my truck intense blue or paint the whole thing Plum Crazy? If yes it would be a big project because i would make sure that everything would be painted correctly and no blue showing.

please input

Since your a beginner on painting, I say go with blue. And pearl isn't all that hard, it usually goes in the clear coate.

Do you just have the intense blue or do you have intense blue with a separate pearl? Separate pearls go in the clear coat. I dunno, a friend of mine's dad owns a body shop so I have him do it all. lol

I think that Jesse T does his own painting...

I think you should go purple if you're willing to do the door jams, engine bay, etc as required for it all to match. Otherwise, I'd go blue.

That'll be two pennies, please.

You should ask Intense Chuck for his 2 cents worth. He has painted most of his engine bay, pullies, engine mounts etc intense blue and clear coat. Looks absolutely fantastic.

lesley... thats a GREAT idea... suprised i didnt think of it ;-)

dave, the pearl is in the blue.. but still i require a clear coat. Jesse does paint and he does a pretty good job. I have had plenty of experience with painting... just never the good paint. I am just about the only one around here that can shake a rattle can and make it look like a mirror finish.

Zaurusman,
i plan on doing the jambs if i do it... i plan on painting my engine bay black... but the coolest part is i found some Plum Crazy Purple engine paint at autozone! woohoo!!
2 cents is in the mail

Hell jah, paint it purple!!! And then get you some of those kamilion wheels like I was going to do, You will learn real fast, its not that hard to do, as far as perls, I have never shot one but my friend has, they look good in the light. I would go with the purple.

Sounds really good, Intense! I like how you think, with the black engine bay making the purple engine items stand out! That's pretty slick!

I second Lesley's motion.

Can you live with an imperfect paint job? If you do the job yourself, there's bound to be some part which you will wish you had done better. If
you have someone else do it, you most likely will
not notice imperfections as much. That's an awful lot of work, and the intense blue is such a nice color to begin with. Doesn't Dodge make an RT truck in a purple? Maybe you should just get one of those if you desire a change. Those intense blue trucks are hard to find! I don't know why you would want to change it. Forget the paint job and spend your money on a weekend getaway!

glad to hear all the opinions.....

lesley/zaur,
it would be a REALLLLLLLLY long project. I have pictures of my shelby motor.. i painted the engine bay black... and the engine was ferd red, aluminum, and daytona yellow.... let me look for the pics... it really stands out.

kryp2nite,
plumcrazy39
ZoochT/A,
i see what your getting at.... but there are a lot less purple daks out there... and my back half of my bed is primered..... and i have a hole in the bed..... no leaf springs..... coilovers....
... dont think it would much of a trade. I might do it or i might not.... (trust me, if i had the money i would have someone else do it)

i think i am gonna take my bed off and work on it at my grandfather's shop where i can practice painting.... if i like how i do then i might try the whole thing.

Hey Intense,Blue is the easiest, no jamb work etc. Purple would be cool, just take care with what ever kinda gun u use. If you use an HVLP (high volume low pressure)gun, you need a compressor with some KICK, typically 13.5 to 15 cfm, this usally means the tall $400. to $600. compressor. Thats the bad news with an HVLP. Good news, less runs, drips, but if u aint got da pressure welcome to the world of orange peel.
if you use a standard suction canister type, it requires less cfm. Thats the good news. The bad, you can run the he!! out of it, either way, get yer wet sanding arm ready. Since your gonna teach yourself(very comendable by the way), I'd stick with da Blue, trust me you will enough work ahead of you..
Good luck
brian

the only problem with that is the patriot blue is soooo blue that it makes the intense look kinda green. I have a ram's head sticker on my back window that is that color.

i dont know yet.... my dad ran into my truck with my brother's jeep and i asked him to buy me a paint gun for his neglagence. He said he would but i havent got around to it yet. We have a 20 gallon "good" air compressor but my uncle has one of those 5 foot tall mother f'ers. I will probably do all the work at my grandfathers though because he has a shop, a compressor and some painting know how.

Definatly go with da 5 foot mother f'er. That compressor should have enough output. It may say it on the tank. Sata is the best in guns in my opinion, but just like our mods the best will cost ya, you can go with a mid leavel hvlp for around $150. clams.
See ya
