I just got a 2001 reg cab 4x4 3.9l v6 dakota. I
was wondering whether i should save my
money and l8r upgrade to a v8 or if i should
just go ahead and mod this truck now until i
decide l8r on in life to change vehicles.
(looking at corvettes =] ) Im 16 now so i want
to know if i can get enough power to satisfy
me out of this engine or get a v8 when i can.

cars are like computers. when you wanted to upgrade your pokey 286 to a Pentium 4 1Ghz, you didn't just bye the processor, right? the point i'm getting at is that if you want to get v8 power out of a dak, you shoulda gotten a v8. swapping over to a v8 doesn't make economical sense, because by the time you do it, you'll have spent so much you could be burning v8's with a v6.
so, the moral of the story is... unless you want to spend A LOT of money on every component in the system from the front to the back, just stick with what you've got, visit www.speedtweaks.net, and build a v8 beater. that is, unless you're rich... in which case i've got some magic beans for sale.

Do you want to beat lightnings? Cuse if so you SOL. But in any case a v6 modded decently can beat many v8's and even in stock v6 form is supposedly able to beat a stock s10 v6 not sure about this never done it but it's said that it can be done. Now you should have gotten the 5spd right? If not then you may have problem in the end with your tranny if you make too much power as the v8 do come with stronger versions.

yeah, i got the 5spd. I like driving a standard =]
its more fun then an auto. Im not looking to
beat lightnings, i just want to know that i can
take most of the trucks that are out there. (that
is if modded i can =] )
