Subject: K&N Filter Problems on 3.9!
IP: Logged

Message:
I was told to take my K&N air filter out of my 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9l because the oil from the filter will contaminate an air sensor. The oil gets on the sensor and then dirt is attracted to the sensor and causes insulation barrier. Any hear about this?

Just when I finally put it in the truck this happens!!!!!

The oil is on the filter. It's not going to go anywhere else. It's not saturated in it, it's just got a light coating on it. Try it, pull the filter out and shake it at a piece of paper. Bet none of the oil comes off.

The only air sensor I can possibly think it might be going to containimate is the IAT. Well, I moved mine closer to the K&N (relocate), and it's cleaner if anything.

If they ment it'll containmate the MASS sensor? Well, we don't -have- one so your fine. :0)

Who told you that?

Never heard of this problem, and those FIPKs arent cheap I know..been looking into one myself. I tend to agree with Todd W, its not like the element is soaked with oil, just a coating. Either way, I didnt spend the $250 or so on a K&N, but $30 on a Holley. Havent driven enuf miles yet to tell a difference (computer isnt adjusted yet, I reset it)
