My 2002 3.9L V6 (same engine as yours)is
SMPI - Sequential Multi Port Injection
It means that fuel is injected directly into the cylinder during the intake stroke of the four stroke cycle.
Hope this helps.
Having this is much better then having throttle body injection IMHO.
