What do you think is better. The Volant 26952 or the K&N 57-1517-1. The Volant says up to 18hp and up to 40ftlbs of torque. But I have also seen it listed at 8 and 8. I guess it depends on the application. The K&N is listed at up to 26HP and says nothing about the torque. Both look cool and are around the same price ($260). Volant is a direct fit and the K&N will take some tweeking, a bent support arm not a problem. My Dak is an 02 with CC and AC. Has anyone used these on an 02 if so what do ya think. 00-01 will also work with these application I have found any of you guys used them, any suggestions or comments would be appricated.

The key words here are "up to XX hp" If V6'ers could get "up to" 26 hp K&N wouldn't be able to keep up with orders, if you go to their web site you will find that the only vehicle that they got that on was a Jeep if I remember right. In real life you will probably see 10-12 hp more if you change the muffler to something full flow.

After that the next best thing you could add is the V8 TB : )

Yeah thats right it was on a jeep, and that is why i included that up to. I think that guys get caught up on those hp ratings. (marketing) How did the install go on your 01 do you have CC and AC if so were they a problem, also how drastic was the bend in the support bracket. thanks for the quick response.
here is a pic if anyone is interested

You got 20" R/T wheels on your truck !

Yes I have Cruise Control and AC the kit has the bracket to relocate the CC and I changed the saddle bracket becaused it rubbed one of the AC hoses.

The kit I got was K&N 57-1517 I don't know what they updated but I did see that they added the -1 after I got mine, so they must have made some kind of revisions to it.

I have photos of my install and how I changed the saddle bracket I'll email them to you if you are interested.

I have a Volant set up on my Dak. I was quite pleased with the installation. I had to bend the bracket so the tube is supported with my headers. I can't say which is better. The Volant has a small heat shield around the filter and the K&N has a heat shield separating the engine compartment. I like the idea that I didn't have to move my CC unit.

A small issue which I believed K&N resolved, was that the batch of air hats developed cracks at the base. I know K&N stand behind their products and shipped out replacement air hats to people that reported this problem.

I think all cold air intakes are within a few hps of one another so I don't think any have a great advantage over one another.

I ran the Volant cool air system with the rubber flap removed for about 4,000 miles, it is similar to k&n’s truck ran great a little loud but it ran great.
I bought a K&N drop in filter and put the stock air system and rubber flap back on, and the truck runs great a lot quieter but it runs great. Hmmm I wonder if the three hundred $ was worth it.

Thanks for the picks

NJQCDAC thanks for the info, any pics of the install.
Bob W. thanks also, so you do not feel a difference with the stock air box rather than the volant setup. interesting. I heard that the jet chip II recommends that you needed a modifided intake and less restrictive exhaust to get the benefits. I know that to really feel a difference i need the exhaust to go with the intake. Jet chip and tstat will also follow.

Also how does that gibson cat back system sound on the 6'er I know the headers must have also helped. Are you going to do the TB swap?

Sorry. No pics of the engine bay. I just loaded pics of Dak after 6 or 7 months. I'm a little slow. The set up looks just like Volant's Website but a 6er instead of the V8. One support bracket needed to be bent slightly because of the slight different configuration of V6 vs V8 on stock exhaust manifold.

I put a K&N OEM replacement filter in my stock box and then removed the input "Snorkel" and the rubber flap by the radiator. I think the truck has more pickup and go than before and it definately sounds cooler at WOT. I had the K&N replacemnt in my stock box with no mods for months and it made a little differance but not like what I've got now. I've got a 98 V6 SLT CC that is otherwise all stock. (except suspension)

i have gibson catback. it sounds ok unless u rev really high and then it just sounds awful. as i said on another post gibson is loud enough to annoy you but not loud enough to impress anyone. I'm sorry i bought it. if you want loud get a flowmaster, if u want quiet leave it alone. as far as power intake does a lot more then exhaust though it helps on high end a bit. bernd has a jba, that looks good to me.

btw, are you guys saying that the drop in is almost as good as an intake?? i have a airaid and that kindof sux too. would i notice a power loss if i just got a drop in?? im sick of my gibson but i really cant sell it cause its welded on now(long story). sux....errrrr
