Subject: installed headers and i found....

installed headers on my 2001 cc v6 2wd. I found precats just under the y-pipe.

do I need them? can i rip em off?

leave em on, by removing them you might notice more problems than performance gains, just get a high flow cat and ignore them

If your truck is like my '02 V6, there's a pre-cat on each side of the Y pipe, with an O2 sensor before and after on each one. I wouldn't cut them out, I think it'd be more trouble than it's worth...

mess with those pre-cats and O-2 sensors and the word for your performance is s**t. It will totally mess up the signals your computer gets and may even lock into "limp home mode".

yeah... leave them in there, just get some high-flow cats. or, if you want, you can cut them out and put in the Kat Box (which i think they make for the new trucks with the precats), although that will then cross into the illegal side (federally), and i don't think you want to pay the hefty $2500 fine for each cat you are missing (had a friend with a mustang... he was given a $10,000 ticket because Mustang GT's come with 4 cats and he had taken them all off).
