A car uses 1.6 ounces of gas idling for one minute. Half an ounce is used to start the average automobile.

Actually a little less than 128 ounces. 128-ou comes from STP conditions for water at room temperature, as temperature changes; pressure, volume, and even viscosity. At nominal conditions water weighs 62.4-lb/ft3. Now since most water is not at these conditions the weight will vary, and since most water contains salt and various other minerals the weight will vary even more...and since these minerals are the controlling factor, water will weigh more than 62.4 lb/ft3.

Now lets assign a higher weight value, say 62.6 lb/ft3 (this may be accurate, but I will forego the chemical weight analysis for this simple exercise).

So, 1-lb of water at nominal conditions weighs 16-oz. But with the actual weight being higher (62.6 lb/ft3), we would realize that 1-lb equals 16.05-ou. Hence with these values one would determine that 1-gallon would have 127.6-ou.

Now I now you meant to say fluid ounces, but in the world of engineering fluid ounces is a unit that has little meaning in thermodynamics.

I need help...

127.6 rounded = 128. You need help. LOL. But thanks for the enlightenment!
