Something Iv never quite caught on too on this site is how when you confront a V6 dak individual about why they didnt go ahead and get the 8 they say, "Well, we just love dakotas and didnt have the money to get the 8..." Then I turn around and see some of those 6 guys that have put more into there dak sixers than the ammount it costs to put an entire big block into there truck...

Just thought I'd mention this to see what kind of input I get...

Actually my dad's 5.0 and his Grand National are listed as high performance vehicles... My R/T is listed as Average... So insurence cant be much of a factor either.

I live in Canada and when I bought my sixer I said why spend the extra $1,000 for two more cylinders.

I would have done the exact same things to a V8 that I have already done to my V6.

So I am in a $1000.

Hey ButtMan (cant stand the thought of why you would name yourself that)

How bout I bought my Dak from a junkyard for 3k in 97 and I have VERY little money in her and I have whipped R/T's???

Is that reason enough? or do you own a V8 Dak and wanna play?

I just picked up a mint 99 V6 Dakota. only 16K on it. It runs great but I miss my IROC power. Any suggestions to get started beefing her up? Also, do the V6 Magnums run a little rough? It's also a little noisey (a little knock when idle). I tuned her up etc and can't seem to find anything wrong.
Thanks to all...

Hey analog...

I have a '97 with a v6.

They run rough...period. A lot of people have put in Autolite 3923 spark plugs and it smooths out the idle. Most of these magnum v6ers also have a lifter knock, mine is no exception to the rule.

Beefing up...depends what you wanna spend. Start cheap....
180 degree thermostat
cold air intake
exhaust (Gibson, Flowmaster,etc)
ait relocation
plugs, wires, rotor, coil, msd ignition
list goes on....
Jet chip

The reason why I bought a v6 dakota is that I couldnt find a v8 club cab 4x4 5spd. They must be a little on the rare side. Another note, someone correct me if Im wrong, but doesnt my magnum V6 put out more horsepower and torque than my 87 318 dodge ram and my pre-magnum 91 v8 dakota? I think my 99 5spd would beat them both in a race. I know I'm not gonna win many races with a club cab 4x4 v6, but thats what my modified neon r/t is for....

The reason I bought a V6er (Premagnum at that) is rather simple. I was in College at the time (18 yrs old) and I wasn't making any money. Between my parrents putting me through a private prepschool and a private college while building a 9 sec Dodge Corranet R/T, we simply didn't have the money. My dad thought me to make the best of what oportunity I was given and at $2300, I didn't care if it had a 4 banger in it, as long as it had a stick. Engines are easiy to come by, the truck of your dreams at a price you can afford while in college is another story. I'm all out of college now, and I'm in the process of building a supercharged nitrous injected Magnum v6er for my old dak that rides on 20's. If that isn't enough power for me, I still have my dad's R/t and his 93 v8 magnum Dak sitting in the garage at home. So it really doesn't matter that my truck is a v6 after all... Now that I think about it.

I bought it used and they didn't have one with a V8 on the lot. Besides it is only a couple hundred every couple weeks to mod it, as opposed to extra cash up front. Plus it gets better gas milage, i know not by much, but when you drive 150 miles a day, it makes a difference. Also i love the looks i get when i whip a V8 Camaro, Mustang, or Firebird, with those V6 badges on my truck.

It surprises the ricers too, but i really could care less about what they think.

Wow so you whip a V8 camaro or firebird with your 6? They must be ragged out IROCs because I had a 2000 Camaro SS and no way would a v6 dak even be a threat to it unless it had major work. Yes I have a '99 v6 dak myself and it's no speed demon but it holds its own.

Well, my choice was 98 dakota, v8,NEW fully loaded for payments of 660 a month, or a 97 dakota, v6, midly equiped (all essentals, no extras) with 9000 miles for only 450 a month, hummmm, thats a BIG difference, esp at the time being on my first real job, only making 22000 a year, I went with v6, didnt take the major depreciation, didnt notice to big of power difference. And the lower payments of course :D

I got my V6 because all the V8 Dakotas at the dealers around here were only 4x4's (I wanted a 2wd) and several thousand dollars more than my V6. On paper the V8 option was only $590, in reality (at least around here in Pa) it would've cost me thousands more.

I can't recall a single time in my life when I ever had enough money to get what I really wanted, so I always have to figure out what I'd like to have if I can't have what I'd really like to have...comprende? Anyway, I figured that I could get a V6 Sport with some nice options for what I would've had to MAYBE settle for if I could've swung a V8...I'd still like to try the V8, though.

well guess what Ll Blackdak... he didnt have "NOS" and i did! i have been beat by camaros and mustangs at the track that have had it too. BUT if you read his statement earlier you might have figured out why i posted that.

Winnin is everything, whether it be by an inch or a mile, lol.

I have to side with Intense on the last couple. Black, thats just retarded of you to say that a V6 Dak should even try to beat a V8 anything without mods.
You do realize some of us like sleepers and being the underdog? it dont matter if we run Nitrous, thats just called racing!!

I am not on the basing Black bandwagon or anything but I do sincerely suggest that you stop replyin to discussions about performance or going fast as one: you own a 4x4 and second: you have no clue how to make things fast and enjoyable on your own.
