Hey all i got a 97 3.9l.. and there is a noise wich sounds like a lifter tick comming from my engine.. it is on the right front of the engine.. *passenger Side* anyways.. i thought it was a lifter problem untill i reved up the engine while i was right by it.. but the noise didnt get any louder.. now in any other case where an engine has a lifter tick it ussually gets louder when you rev.. but mine does not.. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be.. and i would also like to know if anyone knows of a good site that explains the 3.9l inside and out..
Thanks alot guys.. and gals..

Could it be the timing chain? Mine went a couple
of years ago, it was a ticking sound.

mine has the same noise. I only hear it when I'm idling in gear, it goes away when i shift into neutral.

I can hear it really bad when i pull up beside someone at a red light

It's really annoying.

Hey I got the same problem I think that its the Ideler bearing but it also could be the bearing in the A/C pump.

HAVE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER INSTALLED!! I ran a copy of the "Magnum V6 - Timing Chain TSB" (found on SpeedTweaks - Tips and Tricks webpage). Gave it to the dealer service rep when I dropped off my '92 V6 Dakota at 80,000 miles. They installed the tensioner as detailed in the TSB and BINGO! This is the first time my truck has not rattled! The truck has rattled since new - I always thought it was lifter/rocker noise. The fix was not under warranty, so it cost me $390.00, but IMHO, it was WELL WORTH IT! Very quite - at last!
Thanks!
