there are a lot of people out there knockin' the abilities of our V6's and i just wanted to say that i love my truck and the 6 hitter that came with it! sure, i went through those "i wish it had more power" or "i wish i bought a V8" phases but i am completely over it now. droppin' in a V8 TB, less restrictive intake, a more powerful ignition, and exhaust/headers really woke up the bad boy. i am thoroughly happy with it and ain't got no plans of swappin it, supercharging it, or doing anything else crazy to it. i also want to say thank you to all those that help us out regarding mods and informing us of "special" ways to help our sixes.

i feel the same way! but im not over the i want more hp......i proably wont do another mod anytime in the next 3-4 months b/c i am happywith it as of right now.....its faster, lil better mpg, and looks better......everybody i know rags on dodge.....but when i wanna race their pos chevy/ford they all say no, its too fast? is it a pos b/c its to fast? lol i know its not anything near fast, but it sure stopms the hell outta ford/chevy trucks and "non sports" cars like v6 stang/zx2

i know there are alot of guys on here that feel the same way about their truck...even with the problems with the auto tranny....and then again theres the guys that want a race truck but bought a v6 dakota expecting it to run 10's stock......ah i'm done =)

It's a special kind of person who rods a 6. In the 70's I did a straight 6 and loved it. It takes engine-nu-ity to develope horsepower. The 3.9 six has some good parts available for it. You just got to look. 6 will never equal 8, mod for mod, but you can make some v8 take notice.

The v6 IS a pretty good "old school" engine. So what if its ancient, its still a reasonable performer.

I had a 2000 Camaro SS before I sold it and got my moo '99 dakota 6-cyl. These trucks are not fast. At all. I hope speedtweaks can finish up their 6-cyl single turbo kits though, that will really make these trucks fun to play with.

Comparing the SS Camaro to the Dakota V6 is like comparing an F16 to a Bi-Plane. For the times that i've either been hit, or had to avoid an accident...i'll take the Dakota over an import (or even Chevy or Ford) anyday. They're built solid, don't require a whole lot to get them to really "get up and scoot", and are a much nicer looking (and much more roomy) than the competition.

My engine is back in full working order so the V6 turbo kit will be underway very shortly. (We needed a properly working engine to design around it.)

You can't even compare an RT to a camaro ss let alone a v6 Dakota! C'mon, 6Horseman is right in many ways. I also love my Dak and, with the right mods, is a decent lil' truck.

My truck is maxed as far as low buget mods. I'm pleased. I have know problem with running with my freinds 99 swb 5 speed with a 318. He has the fipk and no muffler. I have the 3.9 auto. I did take a lot of "tweaking" but he will never see 23 mpg.

LOL, a f-16 to a biplane. I'm glad my truck isn't as fast as my SS was, I got too many tickets. These dakotas are excellent trucks, you're right. Built well (build quality is better than my camaro was) and not real expensive to own.

Now get crackin' on the turbo kit and make it $3000 or less! :P

Hehehehe...we're trying, but the "estimated" price (out the door) will be right around $3500. Since this comes with a Liquid-Air intercooler, Heat exchangers, Fans, Delta-Gates, and all the hardware (including downpipes and manifolds)...that's not a bad price. Compared to a Supercharger kit at that price...the turbo kit will (literally) blow them away. :)

I'm getting around 21.5-23mpg on average for highway, pushed 24.4 once.

City? More like 18-19mpg.

Happy? You bet, I'm getting the same mileage as my mother's Subaru Outback!

The Throttle Body port, IAT relocation, and ignition mods did the most milage wise. The Flowmaster didn't seem to effect it all that much, maybe 1/2-1mpg or so depending. The JET II helped a little too, surprisingly, but it's all offset by the 92 octane I run now. I pay the same at the pump as people getting the standard 17-18 highway, but I go farther and faster!

Who cares about what people say about the 3.9? If they want to take the easy way out and jump on the V8 bandwagon thats cool.Innovation is what makes a hot rodder, anyone can buy mass produced mods and stick'em on their V8. It takes a little thinking to make an engine produce more power that does not have every aftermarket company making parts for it. With only a few mods out there, to stand out from the crowd you have to create some of your own parts and use your head. Without that kind of motivation this sport would be kinda boring huh?

I have had no problems keeping up with DJ or Dan Gruber with there V8's or my Buddy John's while off road or in the dunes. The power is there if I need it. They may have more Horses but it has not given any kind of advantage that I have seen while off road. On Road sure it has more power but do I need it? NO!

I have desided that I am going to forget trying to build a 400hp 6V and just drive it till it blows(God knows when that will happen). Then drop a 340 w/5speed in . Until then I'll add little things here and there to make it a little more "bareble"

right. great in that it is the largest engine in any late model car/truck that produces the least hp. least hp per litre is probably the 5.9 or the chevy 4.3. but it is the only thing close to 4 litres that doesn't have at least 185-190 hp (jeep 4.0 I6 195, jeep/dodge 3.7 V6 210, chevy 4.3 V6 185-190, chevy 4.2 I6 270!!, nissan 3.5 V6 240-255 hp(also nissan altima SE-R spec V gets 175 from like 2.0 or 2.5 and altima gets 175 from 2.5 I4)lexus 3.0 V6 220, honda 2.0 I4 240(s2000) acura 3.2 220-260 and 3.5 290) I know some of these are car engines but the nissan 3.5 is in the pathfinder and the chevy 4.2 with 270 is in a heavy ass trailblazer!!! its not a good engine for 2002...maybe for 1975, but not 2002. the 3.9 should have at least 200 hp...at least with a 345 hp hemi coming its going to make V6 vs v8 a much easier decision gee 175(or even 210 from the 3.7) or 345 hmmm

so ur saying that the 4.2 vortec is less capable then the 3.9 V6? even though it can tow more and gets a heavier car to 60 in around 7.9 seconds as opposed to 10-12 for a v6 dakota

Your going to go compare a I-6 to a V6? Think about that for a minute Blackdak.

I-6 engines, historically, are -grunt- engines. I knew people who had Chevy I-6s that they ran with very little oil. I know people who pulled tree stumps with them. It was a shame when they stopped making them for a while, because it was a torque monster. So they brought it back, at it's heart it's a truck engine. It's also a DOHC now, which equates to higher revs. But unless Chevy has gone back to their older engine reliability, I wouldn't touch it with a six foot pole. My last two Chevy's were bombs, always broken.
