Hey, guy's. I have a prob. I installed my pullies and now the alternator runs too slow to keep it charge at idle. They say to set the idle speed up, but I have no idea how. Do I need a more powerful alternator or what?

Did you just do the crank pully, or crank and alt?? The ones I got said 100% charge at 900 rpm. Mine idles around 700, so I fig I will get a decent charge. Also rem, you set your idle speed up, your trucks gonna jump or bark tires when you put it in gear (assuming automatic) and at lights will just be ready to gogogo. I dont suggest moving idle up, but its your truck.

Yeah i don't rec. adjusting the idle. That is one of the drawbacks you have to expect with power pully's, thats how the pully's work, they reduce the amount of horsepower used by the accessories to give more power to the wheels. If i have my headlights on at night the dash lights get really dim, otherwise i have no problems. You could put the stock alt. pully back on if you can get the right sized belt, but then you reduce the amount of horsepower your gaining.

If you guy's are dealing with 97+ Daks with FI The idle is set by the PCM signel to the IAC motor and isn't adjustiable.

Most of the folks I read about just do the crank pully

So I have one of four options:

1: Put my old pullies back on
2: Take all but the crank pully off and hope to find a belt that fits.
3: Put a 130 amp. alternator on
4: Just live with it.

Any idea if an Accell ignition kit would help with the idle?

I ordered the asp crank only pully, I can tell you belt size about 10pm cst time if you want. Its at home, and I'm at work, wont be home tell 10pm. I read some back post, and basically what I understood is only get the crank pully, getting the 2 and 3 pack made it run hot, and alt fry and not charge enough. Let me know if you want the belt size.

Yes, please give me the belt size and i'll just take the other two off. Now that you mention it, it does run a little hotter. And, that pully was for the 3.9 ltr., right? Thanks a bunch.

It shouldn't be bogging down when you take off, at least not because of the pullies. If your racing or want to take off fast you could just powerbrake it slightly right before you take off anyways.

The idle isn't officially adjustable on these trucks but on some of them you can tweak the throttle stop to get the idle up 100 rpm or so. However if you go to far the computer will notice and things will get real screwed up.

Like i said i noticed my lights get dim while idling with the pullies on, but it's nothing you can't live with. I've been living with it for 3 months now. The trucks are engineered to provide the best compromise between performance, durability, and efficiency. I don't think you will find a single mod that will increase your horsepower without affecting one of those three things.

I bought the asp 3 pulley kit, so I can just put the alt. and water pump back on with the new belt. But, what do you mean "go down one rib in size from 7 to 6" ?

Thats possible that they would make them diff sizes. Before you take the stuff off give them a call n ask. If the crank pully is the same, go for it. Mine is 5.5 inches in diamater from outer flange, to outer flange. Decided to go measure for you before I go put it on.

Ahhh, got it on after a few cus words :)) I didnt know I didnt have to take that HUGE center bolt out like you do on GM's. But its on, ran long enough to turn it around, and install my roll pan. Now my truck looks complete. Think that about does my mods on it for a month or two.
